Creator 2009 Will Not Install

Please help me, I still cannot install Roxio Creator 2009 even after doing the steps for the clean install and the "hotfix". I have attached my HiJackThis file that hopefully will help determine where the problem may be.

Cool! Okay I did delete the dotNet Framework 3.5 and 3. There is still a Framework 1.1 on there. Is it okay to leave it on there? After the deleting the other two versions I created a new Administrative User Account and tried installing Creator 2009. It appeared to install and even said that it installed successfully, but I couldn't locate it on the computer and it did not create a desktop icon. I then logged in to my normal user account (administrative account as well) and tried to find it with no luck. I then tried to install it again and I got the Wizard interrupted error again. I deleted the dotNET Framework 3.5 that Creator did install and tried installing yet again.... no luck. I'll go through the steps below and see what happens.

I had mostly the same problem, only there was one other symptom. I would get an error dialog popup, which indicated "rcsl.dll not found".

I followed someone's instructions of running msconfig, and turning off all the items in the "Startup" tab, then re-starting Windows (in this case Vista).

I was immediately able to install Creator 2009 !

Do you have your Firewall and Anti-Virus disabled when doing your install as well shutting down any running applications?

I have the anti-virus disabled, but didn't think to disable the firewall... I'll try it again with those programs disabled plus anything else I find that I don't think I need running I did disable everything in the Startup tab of msconfig. I bought this program earlier this week so I could make a family video from pictures for my friend's 90th birthday party tomorrow. So I'm under a little pressure to get the project complete I appreciate everyone's input though!

We're getting there - very slowly. We're past the 'install interrupted' stage

 

One more thing for you to try - follow this guide step by step after you have uninstalled dotNET 2 and 3 (1 is fine - no problem there).

I inadvertently gave you the wrong link last time and there are a couple of minor differences (in registry keys I think)

 

After that - make a folder anywhere on the computer and copy the DVD contents into it and then go there and run setup.exe

Well I went through those steps, copied the disk to a folder on my Desktop then tried to install Creator 2009 from the desktop folder. I got the Wizard install interruption again. Then I realized I forgot to turn the firewall off so I went back and done that. Then I went into the Control Panel to remove the dotNET 3.5 that Creator installed last time. It would not let me uninstall it! It said "setup error". I tried again to install Creator from the file on the desktop. It gets to Gathering Information and then stops with the Wizard install interruption message....

One of two options

 

1: Set up a new administrator account and try to uninstall that way - 3.5 should come out with the uninstall

 

2: Try booting (as admin) into safe mode and try it there and see if that works

 

Did you remove the registry entries as suggested in the guide? That is critical

Yep, I went through the registry instructions, but I didn't have any of the files that it said I would need to delete. I booted in Safe Mode and a login for Administrator came up so I picked that one and went into the control panel and attempted to remove the dotNET 3.5 framework and the message that came up is c:\windows\microsoft.net\framework\v3.5\microssoft . net framework 3.5\vs_setup.msi could not be opened. Choose Retry or Cancel. I chose Retry and got the same message again. Luckily I am able to email you from my laptop while trying to install Creator 2009 on my desktop

Just tell us what it says on the screen and what happens when you try to install - none of us are Roxio tech support and we do this board in our spare time

It is beginning to sound as if there is something seriously amiss on your computer and that Vista is, as we say here, 'playing silly beggars'.

 

You should be able to remove files - that's a given. However, drastic as it may sound, if you can transfer the important data over to the laptop on a pen dsrive/memory stick and then juist re-format the drive and re-install Vista. It sounds more drastic than it actually is (I do it regurarly on this machine when things start to go crazy and don't behave as expected)

Actually stuff on XP should be easier to uninstall - it's not as paranoid as Vista over access so it does sound as though something is very much amiss on the operating system

Well your not going to believe this...... I got to thinking... maybe something is off with one of my microsoft updates so I did a google search for Wizard Creator 2009 interrupted and it led me to a discussion in a forum that said to go to C:\Windows\System32 and rename the dsetup.dll file to dsetupOLD.dll . I KNOW I tried this before and it didn't work, but I figured I might as well try it again so I did and guess what.... IT WORKED! YEA!!! I am doing the happy dance! Of course I ended up doing my video late last night in Windows Movie Make since I still didn't have Creator 2009 working, but hey, I'm stilled THRILLED to know I got it working and didn't throw $80 away after all! I SINCERELY appreciate all your help and attention. Hopefully this post will help someone in my position in the future. Maybe what did make a difference this time is after I changed the setup file name I turned off the firewall, the antivirus and shut down some programs that were running that I knew didn't need to be. That is the only thing I could have done differently and I learned that from the correspondence on this forum! You guys need to be on Roxios payroll!!!! YOU ROCK!

This can happen if you have dotNET Framework 3.5 SP1 on your machine (for some strange reason known only to Redmond, that removed a needed .dll file from your computer).

 

Uninstall dotNET Framework 3 and 3.5 and try again

I appreciate that Actually I read through previous posts and I have tried deleting the 3.5 that was on my computer and it did seem to let it get a little further into the installation because it did reinstall it before it came up with the Wizard interrupted message. I will try it again though!
