No Input Recording Sound Analog To Hard Drive

robswad

Question

Any help would calm me down, please.

I have Creator 2009 and am trying to record from analogue sound. The sound card is Realtek HD Audio input and I have the choice of MIC Volume or Stereo Mix - I have checked stereo mix. It works well with the video to hard drive recording facility - no sound or picture problems. But I can't get the sound up in the roxio LP and tape assistant. I'm capturing from the Realtek HD audio input and the Input is stereo mix - the recording level is set to auto. Zip. Nada, Zilch. Not a sausage. (However when I revert to the old phono preamp USB and audacity, it's a plug and play success. The phono preamp usb isn't even listed in the drop downs on the Roxio Lp and Tape assistant. I just have the Realtek and Bluetooth.) I'm running Windows XP Media. I got the Creator 2009 because of its editing facilities. Seems a bit like coals to newcastle if I've got to create in audacity, convert to wave and import to creator. Have I done something ridiculously silly (and I don't just mean buying the Creator 2009).

Thanks

Robin

It boils down to the drivers for the USB preamp. For whatever reason, Roxio Easy Capture is not recognizing the drivers. Only someone at Roxio can answer that. Since Audacity works, you can use that to capture the audio.

thanks to everyone - obviously I was suckered into buying something through a blurb that was well written ! As Gary says - only someone at Roxio can answer this - perhaps howls of anguish are the sort of thing people at roxio include in the soundtrack of a life.

I'll just crawl back under my rock ...

What are you using as your source?LP,Tape?

How are you connecting to the sound card?

If you're using a turntable and not going through a preamp then that could be the problem.

I'm not sure on yours but often Stereo Mix is the same as the sound you are hearing.Do you hear anything when you try and record?

Go into either the Windows Mixer or the one for the Sound card and make sure that Stereo Mix is chosen as the recording input and not muted.

thanks - I'm taking the phon plugs out of the input to the phono preamp usb I use with audacity and plugging them into the phono inputs of the computer. I'd like to go via the same usb I use with the phon preamp but it's not one of the inputs available when I drop down in the capture from box in the Roxio LP and tape assistant. I assume that if the sound works when I record off the tv/dvd using the phon iputs on the computer it should work for sound only. But there's diddly squit. It just doesn't want to say hallo!

not sure if that helps - is there something which needs tweaking to get it to say hallo ???

cheers

one day maybe I'll be able to answer questions !

Seems that Roxio isn't seeing the USB device .

If you can record from TV or DVD then that should basically be the same as trying to record from an LP,they're both analog sources.

The only difference would be that to record from an LP you need a preamp to boost the signal coming from the turntable.

If the preamp you are using is USB then you won't get the sound from the inputs on your computer, rather it comes from the USB side.

If Roxio won't see the USB device then you won't be able to capture from it.

You should be able to capture with Audacity and not have to convert.I'm not sure what you're final goal is but whatever format you capture to in Audacity you should be able to use the files in Roxio without having to convert to wav first.

I just read your last post again and you said you are taking the phone plugs out of the input to the preamp and connecting them directly to your computer. If that's true then it probably won't work.As I said above the turntable has to have a preamp in between to work correctly. If Roxio isn't seeing the USB input from the preamp then it's like I said and the best thing to do would be to capture in Audacity and then edit and burn with Roxio.

Is this a Media Center PC with the Yellow, Red, White RCA plugs on the front? You will never be able to record that way. Those plugs are connected to the TV capture card and are for recording video only.

You need to connect the turntable to the Realtek card using a preamp to the LINE IN. For some reason, Creator's Audio Editor doesn't 'see' USB audio devices. Something that needs to be addressed.

Thanks - I'm using the 3 phono (red, white and yellow) from the dvd/tv and they work ok when I'm recording sound and pictures. Then I take the red and white sound phonos out of the computer and attach themn to the pre-amp and they work ok in audacity (and I'm using audacity because there is diddly squit coming through the lp and tape assistant programme but capture vid and sound, no problemo). I think I'm trying to ask ... how do I get roxio to just record the sound using the lp and tape asisstant - seems bizarre that it captures the whole lot (image and sound, and has a sound only capture programme but won't capture sound only. Or .. how do I get the thing to recognise the pre-amp - it's there, staring it in the face ! (hey, I know you don't work for roxio and like me you are on the forum but when they advertise it as get your life in the soundtrack it deserves aren't they a little over the top ?)
