Avatar Selections

REDWAGON

Question

Man, was I disappointed when I was looking at the "CARS" selections for your personal Avatar. They are all "CARS". I'm a real custom truck lover (Have one of my own---"Redwagon") and didn't find any thing near a truck for my avatar. Maybe some one can let me know where I can find one that will work.

I assume you are talking about the one I have up now Bruce (The Little Red Wagon). And you are certainly right about the kudos to James for getting me started with a similar gem that he picked up from his web site.

SOOOO---Thanks a heap James. Not only did you come up with a really appropriate avatar for me being that my handle on the forum is REDWAGON, but in the process, I learned an incredible amount of information and knowledge about the design of my web site and also my FTP site address. And all because I am using and love this EMC program of mine.

KUDOS JAMES !!!!

Frank....a errr Redwagon !!

Good pickup Lynn.I didn't even snap to that one.Think I'm gonna use the other site though as it gives more space and is alot easier to use.Still a hassle doing it this way but that's the way it is for now,so might as well live with it the best I can.

Man oh man, that's great James !! Now that's what I call service. I saved the picture to my computer. Now is it possible to somehow "copy and paste" into my personal avatar setting ? I'm not sure just exactly how to get your picture into the avatar settings.

Love it James----Thanks

I've been following all this also.Guess I need to check on space from my ISP.When I googled "avatar" a hit came up for the website I've been using to store mine on.It still would be alot easier though if we all had the ability to pull them off our HD's.

Thanks for the tips folks, and yep,Great pic Redwagon (thanks to James).

When you go to the Avatar settings, do you have the option to upload from your computer or just from a web site?

Bruce,

I remember reading a post by Pat where he said the upload was available to only a few people (gurus). He also said that it might be a feature that gets added later, but not with the brand new boards.

I was running into the same thing,no way to add avatars on your hd.Most of us can only add from a url.If you don't have a website this is a problem. What I did was found a site called All Image Hosting. They'll give you 5mb for free. This is enough room to store a bunch of avatars. Then you can click on one, copy the url and paste it into the box in MY Controls. It's a way around until we see if we're all given the option to upload.

The site is www.allimagehostingsites.com

The best I can detect Grandpabruce is when you go to your avatar settings there is only a box where you can download from a URL and of course there are the default ones that you can use that are included for everyone.

As far as getting access to a website, why wouldn't it be possible to use the free space that your ISP gives you on your internet connection ? My ISP allows me 10MB of free space. I have used that before and transferred many of my files to that using a program I have (WsFTP Pro by IPSWITCH). Then I can let others know about a particular address path to my personal website free space and they can download anything I have there for their use. I have placed videos, audio files, a website design I made and a number of other files on that site for friends of mine. I guess I should try that with the avatar that James placed on his post for me. I did save it as a picture to my computer. So now if I transfer it to my personal website, I should be able to download it using the URL address path that is in the avatar setting box that Roxio has offered.

You should be able to link to it, then. Give it a shot.

Well, I did manage to transfer the avatar JPEG file to my website address from my computer. By the way, when I saved it to my computer from James's post, I can bring it up and view the avatar. Now when I used the URL path to where the jpg file was located using Roxio's box, it does download to my avatar settings. However, what I didn't realize was that it downlaoded as "hypertext" protocol, which means I get the box with the little red "X" in it but not the actual jpg picture.

The original avatar size that James sent in his post was 99 x 72 pixels, slightly larger than the settings will allow. However it did change the size to 90 x 90 pixels when I check the properties for it. You can see what I get when you look at this post and what my avatar now looks like. Now I just need to get that http protocol changed into a JPG format and then it should work.

Hey James----or any one else, can you help ? :)

I stole it from the search results of Goggle "little red wagon".

That lead me to a web site with those products and I took a screen cap and cropped it. (I was really tempted to buy one!)

As you can see, I haven't added a picture of myself. Still trying to find one where my horns don't show…

Holy Molly----SUCESS !!!

I finally figured out how to get that great little picture of the redwagon as my personal avatar.

First, no matter what I did it always transferred to my personal URL site with no problems. But everytime I chose to view it, it always showed as HTML protocol.

Well after that, and after I checked the properties for the picture I wasn't using the exact path to the site address. And also when you transfer files to an FTP site, there are three different ways to transfer the files (Text--Bianary or automatic) You have to transfer all jpg, exe etc files using the bianary method. My fault !!

Anyway, I do thank you James for all your help---You're the man !!!

If I had one for my age it would be a Jerry Garcia looking thing...LOL.This one just represents my minds age.Now if I can just figure out how to get the movement transferred over life will be grand.

You lose the information when it is resized.

I've heard(seen) www.gifworks.com recommended for resizing without losing the action.

Ok,I know what the deal was.I was converting the gifs to jpgs. That was killing the animation. That site I was using to store them only accepted jpgs.I found a different place that takes gifs and Voila!

Thanks again.

You might share that place with the board, someone else might be interested.

Yep ML that's it.They don't give you alot of room but for a few avatars it's enough.Thing about it is you need to know what you're looking for when you go there. Not real friendly but it works for what I was trying to accomplish.Until,or maybe if,they let us all have the upload from hd option this'll have to do for me.
