wendys
It says I need a new video card. Any suggestions of what kind, brand, size to get? I have Intel 945g 128mb video memory Just upgraded to 2mb memory I have a pci and pice bay available Thanks for any help!!!
Big_Dave
ATI or NVIDIA are reasonable choices for graphic cards. Depending on how much video and what the resolution might be for YOUR video streams, video card memory choices can range from 256K to 1mb. Go with the PCIe as the data transfer would be improved. gi7omy
Bwefore deciding just on the basis of the amount of RAM on the card - check as to what it's rate is - a 512 MB card with DDR3 will outperform a 1 GB one with a slower RAM. Amount of RAM isn't always the answer
Big_Dave
Also, be sure you understand the number of cycles to fetch data. DDR2 can offer faster throughput than DDR3 if fewer cycles are need to retrieve the data. It's the memory throughput that's important. Be sure that your power supply can handle the requirements of the video card.
sknis
How do I know? I just ok at knowing the computer. Right now I need to get back running on Creator 9 to finish a project. In the middle of it I get the error I need to update driver (tried) or update card. Thanks If you are able to do some editing and you get that message, try encoding via software. In Video Wave (where you should be working) or in MyDVD, go to the top menu, select tools, options and put a dot near software. You will lose the 3D transitions but it should work enough to finish the production.

Big_Dave
The video card that you specified above (nVIDIA GeForce 9400GT 1GB DDR2 PCI-Express 2.0) requires a 300 watt minimum power supply.
gi7omy
When it says 'minimum' I always add a bit on to be safe - best bet would be a 350 or a 400 (always better safe than sorry)
wendys
Would a Geforce 8500GT 256MB or Radeon x1550 256mb work? My local store has these in stock. The others would have to be order.

The others would have to be order. You need to get a new, good, PSU (Power Supply Unit). I would suggest a Corsair 450W, as a minimum.

cdanteek
Your pc was configured and built to run the way it is, changing things usually requires more 'changes / $'s ' than one would like! A technical look at GrandpaBruce suggestion. To measure power consumption, we've measured to overall power consumption of our test system during idle and load scenarios. The results are outlined in the graph above; and our results indicate that the BFG 7600GT OC consumes 131W during idle conditions -- while PowerColor's X1550 used 6W more power under the same scenario. On the other hand, the fluctuation is a lot less on the X1550 when compared to the 7600GT -- under load conditions, the total power consumption on our test system with the X1550 was 158W, while same scenario with the 7600GT was 180W. Neither cards require a direct power connection from the power supply. Reviews | PowerColor X1550 256MB/64Bit DDR2 cd
gi7omy
You'll need to open the case and usually there's a label stuck on the PSU giving the power capacity in Watts
