Creating 16:9 Movie (not Menu) With Mydvd Express

C-FYMP

Question

Hi,

I just purchased roxio creator 2009. I have been playing with it for few hours, but don't seem to be able to select creating a 16:9 DVD for playback on 4:3 television.

When I burn my 16:9 movie, the playback is compressed. There must be a way to specify that the movie is 16:9 so that if it is played back on a 4:3 screen, black bars are added on top and bottom to show the movie in the correct aspect ratio.

Less sophisticated software can do this. I would be very surprised if roxio does not support this feature.

Help is appreciated.

Have you selected the 16:9 option under Project Settings?

Problem is that if I choose "Disk Format = DVD without menus", the 16:9 option is not selectable (it is greyed out).

I'm not sure what I did though, but the last DVD I burnt played OK. It was not compressed.

Cheers

Why not use the proper application for authouring DVDs - myDVD. It has many more features and options; DVD Express is a "dumbed down" program for simple applications.

There must be a way to specify that the movie is 16:9 so that if it is played back on a 4:3 screen, black bars are added on top and bottom to show the movie in the correct aspect ratio.
If the black bars are added to the video, the video would no longer be 16:9, but 4:3 and would then not display correctly on a widescreen TV. Videowave and MyDVD fully support true anamorphic 16:9 which means the black bars are not added. The correct playback depends on your DVD player's settings. Make sure you have your DVD player set correctly.
