Copying Dvds

Ashman

Question

I tried to copy a dvd tonight. it didnt work.

i put the dvd in and windows read the dvd and roxio saw the dvd in the drive because the little thing in the bottom left corner showed it.

but when i went to copy.. it started and then stopped and gave me an error message (should i get the message on here?), and told me to clean the disc and try again. i did this several times. i even tried a different mode and it didnt work. the dvd is not copy protected. i have successfully copied a dvd with this program before.

help? if you need any other info just ask? :)

i think i have given all the right information about my computer please correct me if not?

If it started and stopped and was talking about cleaning the disc, it sounds as if you have a read error on the source disc.

You're asked to clean it and try it again in the hope that it is a scratched/scuffed disc, or has some dirt on it which is giving the error, and you can fix the problem.

If all discs are giving that result then you have a problem with the drive which is trying to read it, but if only that disc is having the problem then there is something wrong with that disc. You have to be able to get a clean read of the source disc before you can copy it.

If it's a scratch or similar [you've cleaned it, so it shouldn't be dirt] you might be able to polish it out with one of these resurfacing or refacing kits you can get for CDs and DVDs. Some drives are more tolerant of errors than others, so you might get a better read on the disc in a different drive.

Good luck.
