Starts To Encode, But Nothing Burns To The Disc

NewRoxioUser

Question

I've read through many of the threads on this forum, but I haven't found a solution yet. I have Easy CD Creator version 10.2. I am trying to create a DVD of a large AVI (11G) that I captured from a VHS tape using a Pinnacle MovieBox capture system. I am using a Dell XPS 420 with a quad processor to run Roxio. I am able to load the file into a project. I am not performing any edits (i.e. just burning the original to DVD format). When I start the burning process, the application begins to encode the movie. All 4 processors run at about 70-80% during the encoding process. Also, there is no video present in the preview pane during the encoding process. The program appears to encode at incremental steps until it reaches about 20-25%. Then, the progress bar jumps to 100% to indicate the encoding is complete. I dismiss the dialog using the 'OK' button, but the DVD is still blank. During this entire process, no error messages are generated. Based on the various threads in this forum, I have also tried using 'software' encoding instead of 'hardware' encoding without success.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Do you see the video at all when you select "edit Movie" or when you play the video using "Preview"?

Yes, I see the movie when I select "edit Movie". In fact, it plays very well. In contrast, I do not see the movie in the encoding preview pane.

Try this uncheck the burner and burn to a Image file or Video folder set. Then open video copy and convert and burn 'Image file or Video folder set' to a DVD.

cd

I was able to burn an image file. However, I have not tried to 'copy and convert' this image file to a DVD. I'll try this method and let you know the results. Thanks for the suggestion.

I've tried both creating an image file (i.e. *.iso) and video folder set.

When I create an image file, the file is generated. Then, I am able to copy this to the DVD. However, the DVD is not recognizable in my DVD player.

When I create a video folder set, multiple files are generated. VIDEO_TS.BUP (0 bytes), VIDEO_TS.IFO (0 bytes), VTS_01_0.IFO (0 bytes), VTS_01_1.VOB (.99 GB), and VTS_01_2.VOB (138 MB). Should I copy these directly to a DVD? What about the audio?

Thanks for the help.

Hopw long in time is your total project?

There is something wrong with your project when you create the folder set: none of the BUP or IFO files should have 0 bytes

What application did you use to burn the iso file to the DVD? If using Creator Classic did you select "burn from image file"?

If you have a folder set you should use Video Copy & Convert to burn the set to a DVD; you can also use VCC to burn the iso file to the DVD.

The 11GB avi file is 51 minutes long (720x480). When I add it to the project, it shows 3.66 GB to be written to the disk.

I used Creator Premier Version: 10.2.606 to create the iso file and burn it to the disk. In this product, I used the "Burn Disc Image to Disc" under the Copy section.

I'm not sure where to find the VCC. I'm using Roxio Creator Premiere SD 10.2. My options from the home screen are Audio, Data and Backup, Copy, Media and Devices, Photo, Video, and Tools.

Video Copy & Convert???

In the Home app, did you look under Video?

You have to use these programs to Author a DVD Movie, you cannot simply throw files at a disc.

Of course you should be able to burn directly from MyDVD, but Walt is trying to confirm that your system is able to write a DVD Movie first and this would be a good work around if it is.

Roxio Premier SD 10.2 pre-installed on your Dell? Not a bought Retail Version?

cd

Yes, it appears that I have been using the pre-installed copy on my Dell. I also have the retail version of Roxio Easy CD and DVD Burning (Version 9). Should I be using the older retail version or the newer pre-installed application?

Your Dell OEM version is not a full retail Version as you have noticed. It is stripped down to wet your whistle on buying the full Retail version.

Use Disc Copier in V9 to burn your video folder set to a DVD. Version 10 Disc Copier was stripped of audio and data applications and is called Video Copy and Convert.

I think that his V9 is the "Red Box" version. I don't know if it has Disc Copier.

I may have the "Red Box" version. I don't see Disc Copier.

My Navigation Menu (left column of opening screen) looks like the following

Home

Audio

Copy

- Copy Guide

- Copy Disc

- Burn Image

- Save Image

Data

- Data Guide

- Copy Disc

- Data Disc

- Creator Classice

Photo

Video

- Video Guide

- Quick DVD

- Capture Video

Tools

- Tools Guide

- Erase Disc

- Finalize Disc

- Disc Information

- Laser Label Disc

I expanded the Copy, Data, Video, and Tools sections.

It sounds like I might not have the necessary software to complete my task. Can I make the disc with my given applications or do I need to purchase a more complete version?
