Hangs When I Select "browse And Edit Media"

magician

Question

I just installed 2009, rebooted, installed the patch, and rebooted again. When I select "Browse and Edit Media" I get the following error:

C:\PROGRA~1\Symantic\S32EVNT.DLL. An installable Firtual Device Driver failed Dll initialization. Chose 'Close' to terminate the application.

Any ideas how to resolve this?

When I searched for this I found info saying this is caused by a leftover registry entry after uninstalling a Norton product.

Take a look at this.

Problem solved! This is what did it:

1. Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe or Regedit.exe).

NOTE: In Windows XP, Regedit.exe and Regedt32.exe have been integrated into a single program that combines the features of the two registry editors in Windows 2000.

2. Locate and select the following value: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\VirtualDeviceDrivers\VDD

3. On the Edit menu, click Delete.

4. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click Multi-string Value.

5. Type VDD in the Value Name box, and then press ENTER.

6. Quit Registry Editor.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

That is a Symantec software error. What Symantec programs do you have running?
