grandpabruce
I get no recording action on screen when connected to Line In on PC coming from Line Out on Tape Deck. What's up? Thanks. Make sure the sound card audio settings, for recording, are set to Line In, What You Hear, or whatever your sound card supports.
StanVan
Thanks for the quick response. So I changed the Recording to Line In on the sound card, however, still no Recording action. What to do next? Thanks, Stan

What to do next? Thanks, Stan What sound card do you have? If it is an Audigy, change to "What You Hear". If you have Vista, I am at a loss, because it won't be on my computer, unless I am forced to put it there. Vista, in its idiotic ways, uses sound, in a different manner than XP. StanVan
The sound is onboard the MB, and I am using Vista. Could that be an issue? However, I do have a 2nd HDD in the PC with XP. Should I load Creator 2009 on it and see what happens? Thanks for your assistance. And, by the way, I was in Nam in 70 and 71... Small world, eh? Mekong Delta, here. Some of the other folks who use Vista, can help you out more, on the sound issue, but there may be a problem with it being an onboard sound chip. sknis
No Change!!! After loading Creator 2009 on HDD w/XP, there is still no Record action happening. Does this indicate that Creator does require a separate Sound Card, i.e. not integrated on the MB?. What input options do you have? If you select one after another, do any of them cause the recording meters to bounce? No, not necessarily; many laptops do not have a separate sound card but do allow for capture. It is indeed possible if your audio chip does not support the input recording. Just in case it is not a audio card issue, read this. I you have a desk top, a reasonable audio card is about $30 and 10 minutes worth of work. Buy one that allows for 16 bit sampling rates. Note that the Audigy card will do both 16 bit and 24 bit. Here is an example. There are many others. Make sure your computer has a free slot and that the card you buy is for the type of slot. Stay away from high end cards (M-audio) that will work only with 24 bit input. If you have a laptop, there are external cards that might work. I have not tried any of these so do some research. Make sure of your external connections also. Sometimes the wires and connections go bad.
Jdavis
I sent a message but evidently it went nowhere, my problem is the same as the message posted. No sound from the recording input in Vista OS. I noticed that in the setup for recording that the input line was not available. Jdavis
StanVan
Thanks for the response. It is a Desktop PC. The inputs are Line In, Microphone, Speakers and SPDIF Out. I can try them, as Line In does not work. I certainly can get a Sound Card if necessary. The PC has a free PCI slot. Thanks again for the info. . What input options do you have? StanVan
And Welcome Home to you, too. Wow, what an adventure then and what a trip it's (Life) been since. I was in Pleiku in latter half of 70 and Phan Rang in first part of 71. I think I will load Creator on the HDD w/XP and see what happens. Could Creator require a separate Sound Card rather than an integrated one on the MB? TBD (to be determined) Thanks, Stan
StanVan
Yes, I checked the Line In, Properties, Record levels, Advanced. All seem to be set correctly, not muted, and max setting. The Mic Input on MB does not work for Creator either. So, any other ideas or should I just get a separate Sound Card? Thanks. Its beginning to look like you have a problem with the way you are connected to your Tape deck. Have you tried changing the cord you are using to the Line in..... also verify that you have a good signal strength coming out of your tape deck. Also go to Start>Control Panel>Sounds and Audio Devices, click on the Voice Tab and click on the Test Hardware.

Your onboard sound has had problems in XP almost from the begining. Have you ever update the drivers? You'll have trouble doing that now, click the link below. I would by a sound card. Our Company HQ was there along with 1st & 2nd platoons. I conned my way into 3rd platoon 50 miles north at Nha Trang 1967 – Co D 51st INF (Light) I missed Tet.
