Installing Creator 2009 Does Nothing

George Saridakis

Question

I have EMC 10 installed and use it regularly for backing up my business as well as other EMC features.

I bought C2009 from Sams for the USB video interface h/w, and updated s/w content.

Ran msconfig to shutdown all processes and also copied the disk to my hard drive. Running the setup as administrator, the process seems to slow down at installing .net3.5 and then it says it has completed - BUT IT DID NOTHING, AS NO ROXIO CREATOR 2009 is visible in unistall programs nor as a folder in program files (x86)

Any suggestions which won't require removing EMC 10?

Am I running into a MS problem?

thanks

George

I have directx 9 on my system which also checks out ok with diagnostics. I still have the same problem loading the program... hangs up on installing .net 3.5, says installation is complete... but program is nowhere to be found. I haven't called tech support yet... anyone have any ideas? thanks, Jeff

Just curious, does this progrm really work? Has anyone installed it w/no problems? I have installed; re-installed; re-re-installed; removed; re-removed; clean-installed. Just wondering before I throw it and my computer in the trash!

I installed it, on my XP machine, with no problems at all.

Installed EMC 10 and C2009 as well as EMC 7.5 several times and never a problem :)

I would throw the computer in the trash and keep C2009:lol:

What are you system specs and what are the problems & error messages you are having?

This was the solution supplied by tech support for the installation failure and it worked....

Follow these steps:

1. From the Start menu, select Control Panel.

2. Double-click Add or Remove Programs.

3. Uninstall .NET 2.0. If a higher version of .NET is installed (e.g., .NET 3.0), uninstall the higher version first, and then uninstall version 2.0.

Note: If you cannot uninstall .NET, refer to this article at the microsoft website to get assitance getting .net 3.5 installed:

http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archive/200.../30/611355.aspx

4. If the .NET v2.050727 or v3.0 folder is present on your computer after removing, rename the folders to have 'old' at the end of the name or delete them:

* Right-click the Start button and then choose Explore.

* Browse to C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework.

* Right-click the v2.0.50727 and or v3.0... folder, and then select Rename.

* Type v2.0.50727-OLD, and or v3.0-old then press Enter.

5. Download and Install Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 from the link below:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en

NOTE: *Do not install 3.5 sp1*

6. Attempt to install Creator 2009.

You shouldn't need to install dotNET before installing 2009.

I was testing the installation on a fresh install of Vista Ultimate (we weren't sure where or when dotNET was installed, whether during an MS Update or whatever) and it installed (according to the folder timestamps) concurrently with the 2009 installation, so no version was there prior to 2009.

Remove 3.5 as descibed, then do the clean install routine as outlined here (neither skipping or adding any steps)

Vista, Business

Dell XPS 1530

2.60 ghz

4gig ram

250 gig hard drive

32 bit os

it can't find the shortcut

it must configure Roxio Central

setup must update files or services that cannot be updated while the system is running...

when i press cancel (because ok doesn't work) it keeps going back to...gathering information to configure.

then it says "the feature you are trying to use is on a CD-Rom or other removable disk that is not available

insert the "Roxio Centrl disk and click ok.

it's a never ending nightmare!

4 GB of RAM, on a 32 bit system, may be part of the problem. I have seen posts, on other forums, with problems installing other software, with 4GB of RAM. The solution was to remove 1 stick of RAM, and try to install the program. It might be worth the shot.

What's a stick? Just kidding! I have never had any trouble with any other software installation or running. Seems like this is a software problem not a memory problem.

No you wasn't :P

You thought at one stage it came in with Vista SP1 if I recall

Seriously, I don't think pulling one stick out of a machine which is probably running dual channel RAM would be effective - it would force the system into single channel as the two channels would be unbalanced

I am just suggesting something that I saw elsewhere. They said to put the stick back in, once everything was up and running.

I don't have 4GB of RAM, so I can't try it. :)
