Ripping With Roxio Creator 2009

jschalky

Question

I am considering to upgrade my Dell OEM Roxio to Roxio Creator 2009. I have a large CD collection, which I own, that I would like to rip to .mp3 format for use on my mp3 player. However, there is a disclaimer in the features of the Roxio software that copyrighted material cannot be ripped.

Have anyone experienced a problem with the Roxio software when ripping copyrighted material they own?

You should have no problems ripping your CDs, to your computer, with the Roxio software.

However, the software will not copy encrypted movies, because it is not legal to do so.

To put it bluntly - it is illegal to rip copyright material.

However, in general this applies to breaking copy protection rather than making mp3s.

Normally this only applies to video DVDs (some experiments with protecting audio CDs went disastrousle wrong as in the case of thwe Celine Dion one that locked up the drive tray. Not too bad for PC owners who could open the drive with a paper clip, but Mac users had to haul their machine down to the nearest Apple service agent to get it opened )
