Burning Problems Using Video Copy & Convert!

cap2587

Question

I am using EMC 10 to Burn a DVD using Video Copy and Convert. The Disk I am using is HP DVDR+. I have never had an issue using these disks. I am encoding the Iso File with My DVD. Then proceeding to Use Video C&C to burn onto disk. It's 100% complete after compression. Doesn't seem like it is performing the Burn phase after compression like it use to. Not sure if there is something wrong with the Burner. I go to play the DVD and it doesn't recognize it like a DVD, just says CD Drive and nothing on the disk. Doesn't work in a DVD player either. Any Ideas.

I performed the clean install of EMC 10! Unfortunately this did not work. Video CC is compressing the Iso to fit onto the DVD, b ut doesn't seem like it is writing the movie onto disk. Use to have 2 phases, 1.compression, 2. Burning. Is there any other section of EMC 10 that I can use to compress and burn an Iso that is greater than 4.7GB. Suggestions: Frustrating as I have not encountered this problem before.

A Review is in order…

In MyDVD your Project exceeds a 4.7GB disc @ HQ, so you change the Media to DL and burn an ISO.

You then open VCC point to the ISO to have VCC burn to a 4.7GB disc.

Is that correct?

Just wanted to update you on my Progress with the burning problems I am having. I got myself a DVD - RW, which is really helpful when you need to experiment. I encoded my AVI file to a folder set. Then I proceeded to burn it using VCC. It got %99 done and then it say's Roxio has detected a problem and needs to close. Then of course there is nothing burned to the disk. Tried it again and same thing happened. Kind of at a loss to explain what is going on. Both saving the encoding to a folder set and Disk Image has failed when I have attempted to use VCC. What is the main difference with saving to either one of these options, is the quality virtually the same. I guess I am left with trying the Clean uninstall procedure again or just encoding my AVI file to a lower quality on 4.7GB disk size. Any other ideas. Thanks for you help.

That's right Jim! It seems like it is performing the compression phase, but not burning the movie onto it. I have always assumed the end result/quality was a little better going 8.5GB & HQ, rather than 4.7GB, SP/LP. There maybe people that disagree and I think most people don't know that you can use the 8.5 GB disk size in My DVD. There might be something that gets messed up when I use an inferior disk quality. I have used Nextech and TDK, just to try and both haven't worked. Then directly after that I have went back to my HP disks and have had trouble with V.CC. I might just have to go the safe root and use 4.7GB in MY DVD and take what quality comes out, as it seems like using VCC is not working properly. What do you think?

VCC should work just as you expect it to! And that is the best way to preserve quality. You might be able to tinker with Project Settings in MyDVD to find the one that jst fits the disc but VCC is easier.

Got any RW's to use while sorting this out?

I wonder if maybe the ISO is at fault??? I would try this 2 ways. Create a 1+ hour project in MyDVD and burn it to File (ISO) as well as to Folder.

With RW, run both through VCC.

Another thought is that it is not unheard of to have to run the Clean Install process 2 or 3 times! (not a clue as to why but a couple have reported that)

Your description indicates that nothing is ever burned to the disc? It fails during the prep phase?

Since the file was successful rendered by MyDVD I can not think of anything else that would cause VCC to fail…

Clean install is about the only course open.

Jim,

Is it possible that it could be the movie(AVI File) that is causing the problem. It failed during the VCC stage with the same movie using a DVD+R and a DVD RW disk. This morning I tried another movie and it seemed to work. I guess I will try another clean install and try again. Thanks for your help.

If you were successful, in burning a different movie, I wouldn't do a clean install. There may be something wrong with the other file.

One writes a Folder set and the other writes a disc image

Sorry I couldn't resist that one!

But in reality they are done 2 different ways. Also if you ever exceed 2 hours of length you will find that MyDVD has a hard limit and will drop the rest when you choose File but not if you choose Folder.

Why are you using C&C for a .iso file?

Just open that with Creator Classic and that will make the DVD.

I have always used Video C&C without any issues. How is using Creator Classic different. When I put a blank DVD in, it isn't recognized by the DVD drive. JUst say's CD drive. Not sure what is going on. Tried updating Driver, but didn't work. Tips

Edited to get the reply out of the quote.

Jim,

I haven't tried saving the AVI file to a Folder set before. Why don't I try this option. Then I am assuming I just burn the file using V.CC. I think you maybe onto something with the problem starting with the Iso Image.

ps Best Buy has Verbatim blank DVD's for $9.99 on special. Appreciate your help. I think you have to ask the occasional dumb question in order to learn.

I think that you are probably doing this, but in Video Copy and Convert, click on the DVD Video Copy button, not the Video Compilation button.

And yes, give the Folder Set a shot.

Video Copy and Convert does perform the burn if the Iso is bigger than 4.7GB. I usually set it to 8.5GB and HQ, then Video CC compresses it to fit onto a DVD. I had this same problem once before and thought it was because I was using cheap Nextech DVD's. I fixed the problem by restoring my computer for another problem. I will try to do the clean install and see if that work. Thanks Guys. Will keep you posted.

Most Gurus recommend making an ISO in MyDVD and burning it with VCC…

Probably just needs to do a Clean Install – Here

I am going through the steps to do a clean install. Having a problem deleting some of the files. It says it access is denied, this is used by another program or write protected. I think there Dll files. What do I do?
