Roxio Creator 2009 - Missing Programs

thegoldenage

Question

I have downloaded Creator 2009 4 times. I have done clean installs twice. I have read everything I have found here and I still have the same old problem. The only files sitting in the Roxio Creator 2009 folder are...5.0, Certificates, Common and Roxio Central 4. No other programs are in the directory.

I've even re-installed Roxio 10 and then installed 2009. Same results, but with new problems now. If I try to delete or rename a file, Windows Installer starts to run and tries to install Roxio Creator 2009. Plus I can't get version 10 to work. I get the following message..."The following code(s) must be activated before using this application. MPEG-2" I click OK to activate it and get a "no permission - bad installation" message.

Software is simply a collection of bits - 1s and 0s - if that changes, something MADE it change - the program is incapable of doing it itself

I repeat - what have YOU done - and don't spin me the yarn about only doing video work.

Obviously you use the internet - or you wouldn't be saying anything here. What else do you use the internet for? When did you last do a spyware scan? When did you last do a virus scan? What is the source of your videos?

As for the numbers here - they are considerably less than the nu8mber of copies sold of any of the main products (and don't forget that there are two different sets - PC and Mac). Faulty installs are common, so are queries about how to do different things. There are a very large number where the OP has done something to the computer that messed things up - simply search for posts where registry cleaners were used willy-nilly

As I stated the computer I have Roxio 2009 on is ONLY USED for VIDEO EDITING! It doesn't even have Office on it, it is stripped of programs to make its prime use VIDEO EDITING!

I am talking to you on a different computer, one that is for everyday crap like this. I was using Creator 10 successfully for a year or so, roxio has been inundating me about 2009, so fool that I am I bought it. It did work fine for about 4 weeks, then first it wouldn't let me change the background music on DVD menus, then it went to a black menu background in DVD builder, preview showed it but you couldn't see any thing to add movies, etc. So I asked Roxanne how to do a clean uninstall, they really need to update the response, it doesn't say anything about 2009, just 9&10 and newer, wasn't sure if it was the right info, but decided it must be and followed it to the letter, using the Widows Unistall program as it said to, did that twice and could NOT get a complete install, programs missing, I see I am not the only one having this problem as there are lots of people complaining about this. The third try I did a "Remove program" approach manually did everything and it did load completely FINALLY.

So back to your statement "don't spin me the yarn about only doing video work" don't assume I'm lying, people put on to others what they think of themselves, This computer was purchased only for VIDEO work and IF you look at the specs of that computer you will see I have spent lots of money and time on that computer to make it what others on this site have told me I NEED to do to make it work. DON"T make ASSUMPTIONS! <_<

Finally have Creator 2009 up and running (knock wood). I haven't checked every program option yet, but was wondering if there is a check list of everything that should have been installed? From programs to templates. Is there a Creator 2009 manual for downloading yet?

Thanks for those who helped.

Frank

Sorry but the links to the Creator 2009 user guides are not working; not sure what happened.

Anyway, here are the snapshots from Creator 2009.

I made no assumptions - you stated you 'only did video work' - you also kept referring to 'this' computer and said nothing about a second.

I did ask you several questions - an answer may help in working out what your problem is (apart from a reticence to actually SAY anything that directly concetrns it)

Some people do have problems on 64 bit Vista - others don't, so it has to be something outside the suite that is causing it. If it was the suite, then everyone would have a problem, but as they don't, something else has to be examined.

However, if your only interest is a rant, then you are in the wrong place

Probably the same brilliant genius who was responsible for deciding that we can no longer do a custom install of the software. :(

For sure, I certainly don't need most of the other programs, I use Capture, Video Wave, My Dvd and Video Copy & Convert, but they no longer give you the ability to only load what you want. <_<

You said it faulty install, who controls the install? Roxio, it is automatic. I use Adobe Suite on the computer I am talking to on now, a very powerful collection of programs, they all load and work 99% flawlessly. And there are more people using Adobe Suite than roxio and they don't have near the problems. My main bitch is roxio comes up with a new version every other month it seems and they never seem to solve the old problems, just add new ones. It is so touchy to install and they don't offer a "Repair this Software" on the load disc, so if it goes bad, and it will you, :glare: have to do a clean uninstall and start over. Bad programing, roxio prefers to let the customer figure out the problems themselves.

Having same problem and done several clean installation by uninstalled, delete folder, edit the registry but Creator 2009 still fail to install the complete elements came with the package.

Upon registration, it show "Roxio Central 4.5" instead of Roxio Creator 2009.

Inside the Roxio Creatio 2009 folder, there's only consisting of below sub-folder:

5.0

Certificates

Common

Roxio Central 4

Also under Roxio folder came with BackOnTrack sub-folder.

Posted message at Roxio Customer Care Resource Portal but so far, there is no solution to this problem.

I'm glad nobody has problems with 2009 installation, great programing by Roxio! As I said just make a new version with more bells and whistles and don't bother fixing problems, let the customer figure it out for you. Maybe Roxio should call up Adobe and ask them for help on creating a product that will install and run flawlessly.

Race Dave, it's a new version once a year. There might be new or different products every month or so.

Up to version C2009, a change option in add remove programs, and a repair option with the install disc was indeed there. I have jpegs to prove it! ;)

Have you read any of the Adobe forums? Users are having the same problems there as here

Must be a bad disc then because I looked for a repair option on the disc install and the Add/Remove feature, it said remove/repair but when I click it it only will remove, not repair.

Some people do have problems on 64 bit Vista - others don't, so it has to be something outside the suite that is causing it. If it was the suite, then everyone would have a problem, but as they don't, something else has to be examined.

Valid only if everyone's machines were exactly the same, however since machines differ in hardware configurations and software that is installed, the suite could have a problem in some circumstances due to a conflict with something that does not exist on the other machines.

A good illustration of this is the NTLDR deletion issue with EMC 10. There were hysterical responses that it could not be EMC 10 that was deleting NTLDR else it would be happening in ALL installations. In fact one responder provide the silly ideal that a Microsoft update installed earlier in the week might be the cause even though multiple posters had stated the NTLDR deletion occurred only during EMC 10 installation process and not before (would eliminate the Microsoft update as the cause). This same person also said it was impossible for EMC 10 to delete NTLDR, apparently this person had not done much programming. Then whoops, along comes an EMC update to prevent the deletion of NTLDR that occurred some of the time. The deletion of NTLDR occurred only in some XP installations, not all all XP installations (I suspect this occurred due to the enviromental variable for the "temp" location).

To rule out the suite in this instance simply because the problem does not exist in ALL installations is a barrier to finding a fix/workaround for the problem. Luckily, in the NTLDR issue, one poster perservered and finally got someone's attention at Sonic and the EMC update was published, if that person had accepted the "...cannot be the suite fault since not everyone is having that problem...." explanation, then EMC 10 would probably still be deleting NTLDR in some, but not all, instances.

However, with all that said and done, I do agree that it is probably something outside the suite causing the problem but cannot say this with 100% certainty.

Is there any reason you can't delete the file for a given program, thus having what you want in the end?

The first time I loaded 2009 it worked fine for about 4 weeks, then it started acting up in DVD Builder, all I could get for a menu page was a black screen, so I asked Roxanne, Stupid Roxanne, and she told me top do a Clean Uninstall, which I did, followed everything, then reinstalled 2009, thought everythng was fine BUT nothing SONIC was loaded, there is no Capture, it won't even place a 2009 icon on the desk top. What is this just more junk from Roxio? every other week they come out with a new version, never fixing the old problems first, just more of the same, trouble, trouble trouble.

If it worked for four weeks after installing, then there was nothing wrong with the program or the installation

What have you added (including updates) at around the time it stopped?

Software doesn't go off like a bottle of milk - something caused it to fail and what that is is something no-one here can tell you. You're at your computer - we're not watching you

Nothing has been added or changed, this computer is used for NOTHING but video editing, NOTHING, I don't even do windows updates because with past versions some updates coinsided with roxio problems, you are wrong Roxio programs do go bad like milk, I have used every version since 5 and everyone goes bad at some time and has to be uninstalled ad reinstalled to make it work again, because some portion goes bad. I just did the 3rd clean install and this time early on it placed the 2009 icon on the desk top, when it doesn't add the 2009 icon early in the install that is the first obvious sign of a bad install, hopefully this will be a GOOD install, the last 2 times I used windows installer clean up as told, this time I did it manually. If roxio doesn't go bad why do so many people come to this forum with problems with roxio? I have been coming here for years and there are 1000's of people having problems with roxio, other wise this site wouldn't exist

All I know is from YEARS of experience with Adobe, load it and use it, I have now had 5 versions of Roxio and everyone was a pain in the arse to get loaded correctly and then the continual fiddling to keep it working, the best of the bunch was 7.5, but it was quarky, but it worked most of the time. The worst has to be 9, bought it and dumped it REAL fast for 10, which when finally loaded correctly worked fairly good, but I was suckered into buying 2009 because it was supposed to be so great. I should just go back to 7.5 and give up some of the nicietys for reliability. <_<
