Can't Install Emc 11 Content Or Sp1 Update

kidgallup

Question

I did a clean install of EMC 2009. I followed the steps as suggested in this forum. EMC 2009 installed without problems. I was able to open and use this program. However, when i tried to install the EMC 11 content, I get an error message stating I have to install EMC 2009 before I can install the content. When I tried to install the SP1 update I got an error message stating that the update cannot find EMC 2009 on my system. I am running Win XP Pro SP3. I am using Creator 2009-ESP (OEM).

Thanks,

Jeff

I tried to find where on the Roxio web sit I was able to order the oem version without success. I remembered that I had a complete system backup before I had deleted emc 10 and ordered the oem version. I restored my system to that point and opened emc 10. At the top of the welcome page of emc 10 was an upgrade now banner. When I clicked this banner, I was directed to the Roxio web site order page where the $69.99 upgrade was. If you order from this page, you get the oem version.

I hope this will help.

Just for your information , I included the url for a copy of the invoice I received from Roxio when I purchased the oem version by mistake. You must think I enjoy wasting my time by posting false information on this forum. This mistaken purchase cost me many hours of wasted time, not to mention dealing with errogant experts like you. I just hope my mistake will prevent others from making the same mistake.

Edited Out - too much info - Sorry, Jim! - I have attached it, below, note the "OEM"???

This is the url I mentioned.

SP1 only applies to the retail version - if you have an OEM version, then the OEM is supposed to supply updates (all OEM versions are different and what applies to one won't necessarily apply to another)

Support is also down to the OEM

I'm not sure if this will help, but check here

I tried the hotfix you suggested, however, it could not find the registry key because I had already removed it. Now I am confused. I thought I had purchased the upgrade from EMC 10.

Jeff, I can assure you that both Daithi and Walt are trying to help you out.

Their queries are based on the info you provide and the 'OEM' part made it questionable. I still don't understand what it is doing in that email from a Retail sale!

So, with that straight where are we at on this issue and where do you want to go??? (I'm not Roxio just another Guru trying to help)

There is no 'upgrade' for EMC 10 to Creator 2009 - it's a complete app in itself

However, you said "I am using Creator 2009-ESP (OEM)." - either you have the full retail version, in which case the hotfix will find the key, or you have a cut-down version (OEM0 in which case it won't.

A quick check is to run up the 'home app' (aka the menu) and look at the version number - mine says

"Version 1.1.110 SP1;4.50.05a"

What does yours say?

All my problems were with Creator 2009-ESD (OEM) that I initially purchased from Roxio by mistake. ie; content not installing, program interface missing applications, etc. I no longer have this version, Roxico is refunding my purchase. I have since downloaded the full version, Creater 2009-ESD. I no longer have any problems with the install.

There may be other posters that have mistakenly downloaded the Creator 2009-ESD (OEM) version having similar problems. Just trying to help.

Hi Jeff,

Can you tell us the FILENAME of the Creator 2009-ESD (OEM) that you downloaded, please? The rules about who sells full retail software and who sells the OEM versions seem to have been changed on us, and knowing that filename [and file size in bytes if possible] would be very useful as we try to sort out which version a person with a problem actually has.

Thanks very much,

Brendon

Full version program filename: FN56IA50R13_Creator2009_11.0.exe 774MB

Full version content filename: FP20FZS0SQA_EMC11Content_7Lang.exe 854MB

Jeff

Unless I missed something, those two file names are the same as the file names of what you said were OEM.

I am not doubting you, in any way. I am interested in what's up with Roxio and OEM versions.

I purchased the oem version 11/24/08, and burned to disk on that day, before I ever downloaded the full version.

I purchased the full version 11/26/08, and burned to another disk on 11/26/08.

Checking the content of the two disks, it appears the files are the same. Now I am confused.

When I contacted Roxio for a refund, I deleted the install files for the oem version from my desktop. I then downloaded the new full version to my desktop and installed. I then burned the files to disk.

I do not know what to say, the first disk was burned before I ever had the full version.

Maybe the CD Key has something to do with how or what program is install.
