Videowave Crashes

Steve Cummins

Question

I have been experiencing a consistent problem with using MyDVD to create DVDs. I can create (burn) 1 or two DVDs, then Videowave crashes consistently each time I try to burn or preview a new DVD project. I have performed a clean install 5 times. I have updated my video drivers and have the latest firmware for my DVD drive. I have tried both hardware and software settings for burning. In short, I have tried all 4 of the remedies Roxio tech support could come up with (once I exhausted their pat responses after 2 months, they started over again).

Has anyone out there experienced a similar problem? If so, is there a solution? I note from reading the threads here that there seem to be alot of problems with Videowave. It seems to be very unstable.

Thank you!

I believe you are actually talking about myDVD and not Videowave since Videowave does not do any burning. There is a "Videowave" within myDVD but it is not exactly the same as the Videowave application in the C2009 suite.

Most of us find that Videowave is best suited for creating your video project such es editing, adding audiom text, transitions, etc. myDVD is for creating the menus and burning.

Have you cleaned out your procy files late, done a defrag of your hard drives? How much free space do you have on your hard drive?

I am using MyDVD and it is that application that crashes. However, when an error does come up, it is Videowave11.exe that has caused the problem. I have cleaned out the temp space, repeatedly. Not sure what you mean by "procy files." I have defragged and have over 390GB of space available on the hard drive. I can't comprehend why it allows me to create 1 or 2 DVDs, then crashes on the second or third. On one occasion, after cleaning out all the Roxio temp files, it did allow me to create a third DVD, but then crashed on the next attempt (after again cleaning out all the temp files). The latest two attempts have been on a completely new hard drive. Thanks!

Have you tried rebooting, after burning one or two DVD's? It certainly would be good practice to do so, and it may eliminate your crash problems.

And, you really should go back and answer the questions, asked of you, in this thread.

Thanks for your reply. I have rebooted and cleaned out all temp files and rebooted. No luck. Also, in the referred post, I wasn't actually asked any questions, just referred to Roxio tech support, which proved to be of very little help (other than referring me to the same four pat solutions--which didn't work). I am really hoping a user out there has resolved Roxio's problem, since Roxio appears to have little interest in doing so. Thanks again!

Both VideoWave and MyDVD use the Videowave11.exe but they are 2 completely different programs.

There is a problem with your PC and this program. My PC runs for days/weeks on end and doesn't have this problem like you are seeing… This is also true of most users.

Try the suggestion about clearing the proxy files – MyDVD – Tools – Options – Proxy files: Clear.

Does it make any difference if you close MyDVD and open it again?

Have you applied the SP1 update to Roxio? (don't think it could make any difference – just curious )

Please list your computer specs too.

I'm having the same problem with MyDVD when I try to burn my project. I get an error indicating that VideoWave 11 has stopped. This seems to happen if I cut the beginning and end of a video clip.
