When I transfer shows from my Tivo, the Toast Video Player is able to display the closed caption data during playback, which is very nice.
However, it appears that the converter is not so helpful - the caption data does not seem to get preserved when I convert the video to another format, at least in the few formats I tried - DVD video, Apple TV preset, and mpeg-4.
The optimal behavior would be to preserve the captioning information using whatever caption format the target container format uses (if any), but I would happily settle for rendering the captions onto the existing video, since I never watch without captions anyway.
Are there plans to do this, or is it an existing feature that I'm unaware of?
