Hidden Toast Functions?

Pyromethious

Question

Ok, first of all.....who decided to limit the search function so that the following becomes invalid?

'bootable cd'

'make bootable cd'

*shakes head*

Anyway, I'm Trying to make a Bootable OS 9.2.2 cd. I have figured out how to make the .img files in OS9 and I Think I've sorted out the whole temporary partition concept. When searching online for answers all I get are 4+ year old solutions that don't have comparable similarities in 9. I know it's not That hard to do, but for whatever reason OS9 won't burn discs period and leopard likes to make me Think it's making cd's.

Stats:

G4 Sawtooth

1Ghz

2Gb

sony dvd-rw

2-hdd, plenty of space for temp partitions

OS9.2.1 cd, leopard cd

I can only vaguely recall the process for making bootable OS 9 (and earlier) CDs. I do remember that the System Folder needed to be "blessed" which meant that the system icon needed to appear in the folder's icon. I believe this was done by double-clicking on the system file in the System folder. Once that was done burning the disc made it bootable.

I also remember something about a make bootable disc check box but if it did exist it would have been in Toast 5 or older because Toast 6 and later never could make a bootable OS X disc except via the Copy window.

There might be some info on this in Apple's support forums, xlr8yourmac FAQ or at Macfixit.

I don't remember how many links I've read through on this and I've done everything including imaging my os9 cd in os9 and then modifying the contents. It's a personl project machine so I'll probably figure it out sometime...it just sucks cause my windows machine has a registry error somewhere(opinion) because IT won't burn to disc either >.<, but that's a totally different issue.

The more I think about it the more certain I am that your Mac needs to be booted in OS 9 and not in either OS X or Classic in order to make a bootable OS 9 CD. Then you need Toast 5.x or earlier.

However, here is an article I've found that might work:
