How To Select Output To Mpeg-2 Dvd With Mydvd

Guest lduguay

Question

Guest lduguay

I searched this forum for 2 hours and could not find the answer.

I have spend 20+ hours creating a DVD. Like a noob i've selected AVCHD as output.

Now i would like to create a standard Mpeg-2 DVD. I've tried changing the output, from the project properties but the selection is grayed out. So how can i change it back to 4.7GB DVD MPEG-2?

Thx.

Thx ggrussell, worked well. :D

I would have preferred changing the project type to DVD directly in MyDVD since i made a 12 slideshow montage.

Also after saving my project to AVCHD format, and mounting the ISO, CinePlayer is showing a black screen. I will try on my PS3.

Thx again

Sorry, once you have chosen a project type, it can't be changed AND keep everything in the project. You have to start over. That would be a nice feature if we could.

The AVCHD on standard DVD is not readable if you use WinXP, but works fine with Vista. Several other users have posted that the PS3 plays the disc back.

Thanks for the info. :(

I am using Vista 32, and i noticed that my resulting AVCHD iso was 1.9 GB, while my standard DVD version was 3.8 GB. I know that MPEG-4 has a better compression ratio than MPEG-2, but i am a bit surprised since MyDVD has estimated a 7GB output for the AVCHD project. So i switched to DVD-DL to accomodate the extra size and burned the ISO to my hard disk. Mounting the hard-disk hosted AVCHD ISO file worked well, and i was able to retrieve my 12 movies in order to recreate a standard DVD format as per your suggestion.

I am not sure why Cineplayer shows a black screen (although the player is still responsive).

I will try to burn to a real DVD-DL and see if my PS3 is able to read it.

Thx again for your valuable expertise

Well, my AVCHD project worked as expected when burned on a DVD-DL total size is 1.9GB and the same DVD (SD) project is 3.13GB.

Both are readable using Cineplayer.

Thx

I noticed when i burned my 1.9 GB AVCHD project to a DVD-DL, Vista tells me that the whole disk is used (disk properties shows +8GB usage). I can visually see that only a small portion (close to the spindle) of the disk is burned on 2 uneven layers.

I believe that is how Dual layer works. Even if you don't have a full disc, the data is split between both layers.

I'm a bit confused. Are you burning as AVCHD project or are both discs being burned as a 'video dvd' (MPEG 2)? They should both be the same size if MPEG 2.

Video DVDs will always be 'closed' regardless of how much video and Windows sees those discs as 'full'. Just the way it works.

I have a project type as AVCHD in MyDVD, burned to DVD-DL using 1.9GB

I have converted the AVCHD movies directly from the DVD-DL back to MyDVD, but this time for a DVD-SD project. The output was 3.8GB for the regular DVD (MPEG-2).

As for Dual Layer, i though that the layer change would only occur when layer 0 is full.
