Safe Padlock

StevieW

Question

I have bought Creator 2009 to convert my home videos from PAL VHS to DVD to stop the aging and do a little editting. Input is by SCART to my PC USB via E-Z Grabber from www.techgear.fr which I bought from Amazon. All captured videos have a little Padlock icon on the top left hand side of the screen with the word SAFE next to it. It is present in the Preview screen before Capture too. At first I thought it was a recording error embedded in the tape but it is present on all tapes from various machines filmed at different times. I think it is added by either Roxio or Techgear. Both websites are silent on the issue and the Techgear site is pathetically useless. The tapes are home videos so no way copyrighted. Anyone any ideas on how to turn it off or get rid off it please? Thanks Steve

Well it looks like that USB device comes pre-bundled w/ software from another company, so its possible that its "grabbed" in such a way that it only wants you to use the software that the device came bundled with.

Well that sounds a strong possibility that I'll need to try out. I've been using C9 and the Grabber as an input device but have loaded the bundled software too. Thanks. I'll let you know.

I've now had a chance to run the EZ Grabber software and the padlock icon and the word SAFE are still there in the top LH corner even with no video cassette playing. Annoying or what! Anyone got any further ideas please?

Maybe try and open those w/ the other/prebundled software, output them in a high quality format that Videowave can open, use Videowave to open and then edit those files and go from there.
