Backup Mypc From Secondary Disc Drive

PC User

Question

Under EMC10 I would like to know if this sort of problem still persists. I am on EMC8 and cannot consistently back up files from my secondary SATA drive (D:\) to a DVD. I have 2 SATA drives on my computer, C:\ and D:\. I am running XP Home at SP3. I am using Backup MyPC to schedule backups at night. The configuration for the backup is set to do a copy of the files. Monday I backup 'My Documents' which is located on the C: drive. Everything works great. Tuesday I backup all my digital pictures from my D: drive. It never backs up clean. I always get not found errors. On Wednesday I backup 'Mail' from the C drive. Works every time. The not found errors from the D drive backup are not the same files every time. The failed files change. It's almost like a timing issue except this is the only software program that is not having success with the D drive.

I did a test and copied all my digital pictures to a temp folder on my C drive. (C:\Digital Pictures\...) I then used the backup wizard to copy them to the same DVD drive that I used when the digital backups would fail. It worked like a champ. It copied all the files and verified them all. No errors. I then tried to again copy what are the same files located this time on the D drive. Multiple not found errors.

My questions:

(1) Is there some configuration setting I need to make?

(2) Is this perhaps a known problem with EMC8 that has been fixed in EMC9 or EMC10?

The 2 SATA drives are running off I believe the same controller. I think I have 2 SATA ports on the card. The backups are scheduled to run at 11:00pm so there should not be any competition for the drive. I'm stuck .... ideas???

Backup My PC ended with EMC 9, because it doesn't run in Vista.

. . . so it might be running into trouble with your XP-SP3, since SP3 was designed to make XP more like Vista.

I've not seen a report of this sort or problem before, so if there weren't earlier reports there wouldn't be a known problem to fix when EMC 9 was published in any case.

I would suspect that SP3 is the cause, but I don't know of a fix, I'm sorry.
