Critical Update Will Not Install

jarz

Question

I have Roxio Creator DE, Version: 9.1.573 SP1. Machine is a Latitude E6500 laptop.

Each time I launch Roxio, the Roxio Software Manager application launches and says for Creator 3.5 there is a Critical Update available, "Dell Creator DE Critical Update October 2008"

Whether I choose to download & install or just download & install later, the downloaded file (pxengine_4_12_19a.exe) will throw the following error:

Sonix PX Engine Setup

"Unable to write to the current directory. The installation file needs to be able to read/write to the the current directory. Please change permissions for the directory or move the installer to a location that has the proper read/write permissions"

I have full administrative rights on this machine. I move the installer to different directories and the same error message is thrown.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

-John

The PX engine is only needed, if your version of Roxio doesn't see your optical drives. If your versions sees them, the update isn't needed.

XP Pro, SP3.

No issue with optical drives that i know of.....

still annoying to get the Update reminder every time i launch the app.....can't understand what directory it's trying to write to..

Well, you can stop it, if you so desire.

On the home screen, click on Tools, then on Options, and uncheck the Check for Updates box, under the General tab.

Just out of curiosity - isn't the update for the retail version and not the Dell OEM?

And don't the patches come from Dell as well?

You are correct. The only patch, for the Dell edition, is the one for fixing the problem with the Dell version not running, without being connected to the internet. A link for that, is in this post.:
