Creator Basic V9 Dvd Copy

Consult DSW

Question

I am trying to use the Creator Basic v9 program on my HP VISTA desktop to copy a DVD. The software starts fine, recognizes my drives, recognizes the disks in the drives.

Then it asks that I install a DVR-R into the drive. I have DVR+R disks. The drives will support both types but the program will not execute with a blank DVR+R as the target disk. Both disk drives operate the same. One is a TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-H652M and the other is a Sony DVD RW DRU-810A. I need help. Should it not work with a DVR+R?

I think it's a disc quality Media ID (MID) issue

I seriously doubt a OEM V9 can somehow alter the drives firmware tables! I would take Walt's advice "Why don't you first copy from the source DVD to your hard drive as an image (iso) file? "

If your V9 doesn't have the capability download the small free program # 7 in my signature, ImgBurn Current version: 2.4.2.0., and use it.

You can use ImgBurn to burn the image back to a +R disc. When this +R disc is loaded in a drive and ImgBurn is open, on the right side of the window what does it list as Supported Write Speeds x xx xx xx and below that Disc ID: xxxxxxx, quote them exact please.

I own several Sony DRU 810a drives, they are a rebaged BenQ 1640 and preform much better cross flashed to BenQ firmware. Under both names and firmware they are one of the top 10 drives ever made.

The 'Basic' version of 9 is usually an OEM one which has some components removed - it's possible that youirs was set up for DVD-R only

Not having the basic version I can't confirm that - are there any letters after the version, such as DE, XE or similar?

I would think that, if your "source" disc is +R, it should copy to a +R in the other drive, but Daithi may be right.

Does that mean that the source and target disks must be the same type?

Why don't you first copy from the source DVD to you hard drive as an image (iso) file? THen copy the iso file to your destination disc. That separates the reading and burning into two separate steps and is more reliable in my opinion.
