Hector46
I spent over 4 hours creating a playlist for an MP3 CD. lynn98109
Altho if a player can read an m3u list, it will follow it, otherwise an mp3 disc is simply a data disc, and is read by the standard allpha-numeric order. Tht means unless it is overridden by numeric, it will revert to alpha. So, assuming under 99, you need to name them 01title.mp3 02title.mp3 03title.mp3 25title,mp3 etc You can put 00 before 01 if you have 100; for more than that you need 3 digits. Lynn I'm sorta confused --- let me get this right. If I go down the list after I select the titles and remane them 01, 02, etc. that will work? The original track numbers are showing from the CDs they came from, just ahead of the titles.
Hector46
I just added the playlist file to the CD to no avail. Still plays out of the order I set up. I assume I need to delete the original track numbers first. ALSO --- Windows Media Player 11 won't recognize the discs. Oh well. A complete day wasted. Hector46
Okay... what do you want, a "Music (Audio) CD", with tracks, and a maximum of 80 minutes of music, or an MP3 CD? Two totally different types of disc. What I wanted was more music on a CD than I can get on a regular "music" one. I was trying to make a long-playing Christmas one for upcoming gatherings, but silly me I wanted titles in a certain order, don't ask why. I've been renaming the saved tracks with numbers -- it's tedious. One more thing : my MP3 CDs won't play in WMP11. The CDs aren't even recognized. Regular burned CDs play fine. Is this a WMP issue? Dumb questions, I know.
Hector46
So, if you have the playlist file on your CD, and your MP3 player plays them in alphabetical order, instead of the playlist order, that basically says that the player doesn't use the playlist. In that case, yes, you'll need to prefix the file names with something that will force the operating system to "show" them in the order you want them to play. As was said, if you have over 100 MP3 files, then you'll need to use a three digit number. So, the issue is whether or not your player actually is supposed to use the playlist. You'll have to check the manual for your player to determine that. OK thanks everyone for the help. Sometime this week I'll rename all the tracks without the original track numbers and see how that goes. I just want a music CD the way I want it, not how my infernal machine thinks it should be. Brendon
I just want a music CD the way I want it, not how my infernal machine thinks it should be. If you want a music CD, why don't you just make a plain, vanilla, audio CD. The tracks there will stay where you put them. If you rip them the right way from the source CD they will have ever so much better fidelity than you get from ripping and compressing to a lossy MP3 file. Dumb questions, I know. I can't help you with WMP11, haven't loaded it. Personally, I use WinAmp for my MP3 player. You should be able to use your playlist file with Winamp, then you wouldn't need to rename your files. But, then you'd have to be playing the disc on a PC. We never ascertained what device you're using to play your disc.

We never ascertained what device you're using to play your disc. I have a Bose Wave radio downstairs that plays MP3s and regular CDs with no problems. They play in my vehicles also. My PC plays my burned CDs , but just recently refuses to recognize the MP3 discs. I have a HP with Vista, all the updates installed, 2 gig RAM. I used to use WinAmp, maybe I'll go back to that. Kinda liked it. Thanks to everyone for the answers.

A friend made a "music CD" for me - keeping all the original track numbers, which is the order the .mp3 data disc defaults to - first the track number, then alphabetical. And when I pointed out that the quality of .mp3 is far less than CD or .wav, all I got was a 'harumph." Lynn
