Question

This is a really weird problem and I have a message pending with tech support but that's been a week and still no answer. I have been using Photo Show 5 for at least 6 months. I have burned stacks of Cds and Dvds of the Photo Shows I create without a problem. I found that Staples DVD and CD (both Rs) work best. I have a burner in my computer and an external Sony burner that is only a couple of months old. About ten days ago, the program simply stopped burning DVDs - all I get is "Waiting for a CD or DVD" and "After you close the drawer, click OK" I can go through that 10 times and that's all I get. I have tried on both burners. I have checked the information on "Resolving General Burning Issues" and done the recommended items. I CAN STILL BURN CDS WITHOUT A PROBLEM on either burner. Just not DVDs. You can see the green light flashing on the burner so it knows it has a DVD but that does not translate to the software. Anyone have any ideas?????

I would bet they did work fine, but now they aren't. Staples House Brand CD/DVD's are farmed out to the lowest bidder, IMO they are junk. Try Verbatim found at Best Buy and the like for under $15.00 for 50....

So photo show does't see a disc but the drive shows in the application? Do your drives show in my computer?

Do you know how to go into device manager and expand the + mark next to CDDVD Rom Drives? Look for yellow exclamation marks and list the drive exactly like its shown there.

Download and install the free small program, ImgBurn Current version: 2.4.2.0. # 7 in my signature. Place a verbatim disc in a drive, make sure that drive is selected in ImgBurn and on the right side list the Media ID (MID) for the media and X speeds listed. Then try the Staples media and do the same, pleease post that here.

Yes the drives show in my computer. The external drive only shows, of course, when I plug it in. I downloaded the ImgBurn version 2.4.2.0 as per your recommendation. You were absolutely right. Using Imgburn I was able to burn a file from My Pictures onto the Verbatim Disc but not the Staples disc. The Staples disc shows full but there is nothing on it. So now here is my situation. I can burn CDs all day from PhotoShow5 (at least so far). When I put a Verbatim disc in and try to burn from PhotoShow I still get the "Waiting for a blank CD or DVD" message. I can burn, using ImgBurn onto a DVD on either burner, files from My Pictures. Now, the 64 zillion dollar question, we know the burner works witrh Verbatim discs - can I somehow use ImgBurn to burn PhotoShow albums??? You have been a huge help and thanks for your advice. If you can solve this one - I sure would be grateful.

I am having the same problem, only Photo Show has promted me to input a "DVD Activation Code" twice now. I tryed puting in the original "Activation KEY" code which came with my down loaded recept and the show actually started to burn the DVD but once the burn was done, there was nothing, zip, zilch on the disk! It will not ask all the time and unless it pops up unexpectedly, I cannot find anywhere to add one, even it I had one.

Ok I bought some Verbatim DVD Rs and just tried to burn a Photo Show - unfortunately - same result - just kept getting the "Waiting for a blank CD or DVD" message. So the Verbatim DVDRs are not the solution. I am now at the end of my rope and have received nothing from tech support at Roxio. Any other ideas???

Sounds familiar. When I bought PhotoShow 5 I also got the CD with the software. Since my problem started, I have uninstalled PhotoShow 5 2 or 3 times and reinstalled it from the disc which, of course, has the Activation Code built in.

Here is something else I have tried. I sent a Photoshow to a file in my computer and then, because ImgBurn will burn a DVD from a computer file (see preceeding post) I tried to burn the file to a DVD. ImgBurn went through the whle process including the little tune it plays when the burn is successful, but the DVD had zip on it. In properties it show as 100% full but contains no content. Anybody else have any idea?????
