Toast 9.04 A Step Backward For Fcp Qt To Blu Ray

Stucker

Question

O.K., I must be one of the few folk outhere with a PowerBook G4 with FC Studio and a LaCie BD burner creating a single BD for my clients with Blu Ray players and 1080P LCDs. Things were going fine, having been shunned by Apple like everyone else, and happily burning BDs in Toast 9.02. Granted the 'HD menu' buttons were still 4:3 ratio and chapter markers didn't transfer no matter what I did, and the H264 re-encode takes forever (why H264? don't get me started..) But now with the upgrade 9.04 installed I STILL have all the problems above but NO Half Pel function even though it is still selected. So now the BDMVs are juttery with motion!!! Will try reinstalling upgrade from Toast 9.0, or MPEG 4 AVC?? Maybe Compressor Program Stream, or H264?? Anyone have any other solutions for no Half Pel???

Hate to tell you this, but my solution was Adobe Encore. The h.264 encoder for Toast was so bad it routinely allowed the bitrates to spike well over the allowable limit for DVD on Blu-ray, and even Blu-ray discs themselves.

People have had mixed luck using external encoders in Toast (like compressor).

Ooops!! I'm adding to my own topic. I may have caused the original problem with the Half-PEL function. I may have had the wrong Field Dominance setting in the MPEG2 encode (HDV 1920X1080i should be Upper (Odd) and having just done a DV encode I had it set at Lower. Meanwhile Roxio support was very halpful in instructing how to do a clean removal of Toast 9, and a source from their Japan website of the previous 9.02 version, which had been working with the Half-PEL function. So when I discovered my good encodes were back with a solution, I daringly upgraded once again to 9.04, and it now does the Half-PEL function, too, so NO MORE motion blur! Whew!!

May take a look at the new Western Digital HD player, in my thrashing, I read about in the Apple thread on 'No Blu Ray from Apple"
