Need A Recommendation

PrincessoftheLake

Question

I am going to be buying a new desktop and I need some recommendations. I have ROXIO EMC 10 and I use it to create lots of my own productions mostly with video files and background music. What should I look for in a new box as far as processor, hd size, graphics card. Also, how hard will it be to move Roxio and all my project files over to the new computer?

I am looking forward to any thoughts or suggestions!

C2D or Quad Core, closer to 3GHz the better. I would rather have more Hard Drives than 1 big one, add them later it's way cheaper. A deticated PCI Express 2.0 x16 video card 256mb to 512mb of onboard ram, not any of this shared ram business. I would come back and ask when you are deciding on model A vrs. model B.

Move project files, a few not bad, a bunch some work. Why not finish up where they are?

CD makes some good points! With heavy video work, pick a fast processor, with a big L2 cache and fast processor memory. If you can find out the disk cache size in the drive, pick drives such as 7200 or 10000 rpm models with larger cache size.

Thanks for the feedback, both of you. I'll do some looking around and come back with a couple of picks, if you don't mind. CD, you are right. When I make the move I'll most likely have all finished projects. Besides, all my program files, project files and video files are on my aux hD anyway so I guess it shouldn't be a big deal.
