Clean Install Fails To Resolve Run Time Error

ZZZe

Question

I followed the detailed instructions given in Clean install instructions for Creator 2009 on Windows Vista plus the following additional instructions provided by tec support.

Before you reinstall the software please install the patch at this link:

http://kb.roxio.com/content//kb/Creator/000217CR

Copy the DVD to your hard drive and try installing from the hard drive.

Disable your anti-virus and firewall before reinstalling.

Total time to accomplish this including time with tec support was more than two hours. I was extremely careful in following each step in the instruction explicitly, going slowly and checking off each item as I went. After the clean install and installation of SP2 I again experienced Run Time errors when adding photos in Slideshow Assistant.

Anyone have a suggestion I might try?

Make sure your Video Card drivers are up to date.

Then try them in VideoWave (Video-Movies tab, Edit and Transfer – Edit Video-Advanced)

It is a different program and if it chokes on them, then it would be assumed that there is something wrong with the pictures.

Good suggestion trying Video Wave, it worked just fine, so it's not the pictures. Video Card drivers are up to date. Also, Slideshow Assistant can read my old Roxio SlideShow (.dmss) files but will still crash with runtime errors when trying to add pictures.

VideoWave is so much more program that I think you could dump Slideshow Assistant and never regret it…

I am curious though. Does the crash occur only if you use an Old dmss file and try to add new pictures?

Or does it happen even with a new project when you add pictures?

SlideShow Assistant crashes with both the old dmss file and new projects. VideoWave will also read the old dmss file, and has no problem adding new pictures and saving the show in the newer Roxio Media Production format (dmsm). I am also still perusing the Slideshow Assistant issue with tec support since I feel Roxio has a responsibility ensuring all apps are operational.

OK, you go with that!

I know why you laugh. Tec support's last response indicates they may never resolve the issue.

"Please allow us to research your issue and we update your ticket when an appropriate response is available"

I will just have to add SlideShow Assistant to a long list of apps I've broken. In case anyone is interested here is a summary of steps taken to resolve this with tec support

1. Followed detail instructions for clean install from hard drive, firewall and anti virus turned off. Software patch run before reinstall (http://kb.roxio.com/content//kb/Creator/000217CR)

2. Ran DxDiag and provided results to tec support.

3. Insured video drivers were current per manufactures web site.

4. Verified errors occurred on administrator account.

5. Set up second administrator account, and experienced same error.

Don't use the Slideshow Assistant to create slideshows. Videowave is much better and offers much more flexibility and more features. Most of the Assistant are "dumbed down" versions.
