Toast 9 And 1080p

Despite my assumption otherwise, Toast 9 can handle 1080p titles. The catch: you have to find another program that can encode them for you.

Tonight, using Adobe Media Encoder, I encoded three files to h.264 with AC3 audio, 23.98 fps. I took these three files (.m2t files) and burned them to a DVD (so I was working with AVCHD on DVD). I popped the disc into my PS3 and low and behold, when the files played the TV reported a 1080p signal. Mind you, the PS3 does not upscale Blu-ray or AVCHD content to 1080p like it does DVDs, it displays as encoded. I did the same using an MPEG-2/AC3 stream and it also outputted at 1080p (although it distorted the image so it only filled half the screen - don't know what was up with that). Also, so far I've only been able to make this work with transport streams. When I tried to add a normal .mpg file, it re-encoded everything.
