Windows Media Player Now Errors After Installing Dvd Encoder

grahamsmith

Question

Have just purchased and installed SonicCinePlayerDVDDecoderPackv2.31_SDD on Windows XP with WMP 11. I have no other DVD codecs installed. Now when I try and play a DVD in Windows Media Player I get an error.

WMP has encountered a problem and needs to close.

Anyone any ideas how I can fix this. All I'm trying to do is play DVDs on my IBM Thinkpad laptop. Doh!

Thanks

Graham

Doggone, someone moved this while I was replying. I lost the complete reply. They should have at least not done that if they saw that someone was reading/replaying to the topic.

In short, it could be a bad download. Contact Roxio to see how large it should be. Next try repairing it using XP's add/remove programs. If that doesn't work, try re-installing it onto your hard drive from the download.. Make sure you are installing it to a clean (no malware) defragged hard drive. Make sure you are disconnected from the internet and have shut down your antivirus software.

Are the DVDs commercially bought, copied from commercial discs or home made?

Download and run VLC (free) player to see if it will handle the discs. If so, you might consider trying that and returning the Codec pack to Roxio within 30 days of purchase for a full refund if you bought it through Roxio's web store.
