Photo Suite 9

Jano W

Question

Can anyone advise if you can create cutouts on Photosuite 9. I was using Photosuite 5 which does have the cutout feature but I have just got a new laptop with vista and just bought Photosuite 9. In one of the menus it has "create cutout" but it won't let me highlight it and select it. Can't seem to get it to work....can anyone help?

I'm not sure how v5 worked, but there are a few ways to use the Cutout feature in PhotoSuite v9. What is it you are trying to do?

I want to cut a head out of one photo and paste it on to another photo. You can do this okay on Photosuite 5 and It looks as though you should be able to do it on PS9 but its not letting me highlight and click create cutout on the menu. Its in pale grey. I'm not sure if this feature is avaible on Photosuite9. There is an option in the menu to allow you to add cutouts or other photos and this seems to be working okay.

You can do that in PhotoSuite. When you say Create Cutout is greyed out, have you used the cross hair cursor to make your selection first? The Create Cutout button doesn't become active until you have made your selection.

How do you do that? When I go into the crop feature it lets me cut out a specific shape like stars, rectangles etc....but I want to make a freehand cutout selection. There doesn't seem to be anyway to do that.....

I have Photosuite 9 roxio elite - it didn't buy it as part of the Media Creator. Not sure if this makes a difference.

The Create cutout option is in the Mask Layer Menu - the other options are enable mask, delete mask, invert mask selecton, create cutout and they are all greyed out as if i need to do something first before it can be activated. Not quite sure what though....

ok, I don't think you can use the Cutout command from the Mask Menu until you have a selection. Here is how I would approach what you want to do in PhotoSuite ( I don't know how different your version is than the EMC version, though):

Open the 2 images so you can view them in the bin at the bottom.

Click on the first image (the one from which you want to extract the head).

Click on Freehand Mask Cutout in the Tools Menu (EMC PS v9).

In the FMC dialog window, use the crosshair cursor to select (outline) the part of the image that you want to copy over to the second image.

The Create Cutout button should now be active.

Can you get this far in your version?

Thank You for your help. Unfortunately there is no FreeHand Mask Cutout option in the tools menu in my version.

Is the version that you have Easy Media Creator 9 and does it work on Vista okay. It looks like I will have to get the other version as the cut out feature is the main thing that I use it for. At least I know that it still is possible to do.

Also so you know if there is a difference between Roxio Creator 9 and Roxio Easy Media Creator 9 - Are they the same thing?

It seems odd that there would be no way to make a free hand selection  But there are so many different versions, I guess it's possible. The "Elite" line is new to me. You may be able to pick up an old copy of EMC 9 (yes, that is the one I have referred to above) for cheap, but I don't know if it works on Vista. Creator 2009 is the newest version, which may be more Vista friendly. (I use XP)

If you list your system specs (like I have mine listed in my sig), one of the Vista gurus might drop in and let you know how you might do with EMC 9/PhotoSuite or the newer Creator 2009/PhotoSuite on your computer.

Creator 2009 is compatible with vista but whether it has the free selection tool is another question!

Thank you for your help.
