Trouble Burning Dvd's Creator Basic V9

favodemel

Question

Hello---

I have Roxio Creator Basic v9, and lately I've been having trouble burning DVD's; sometimes it works, but most of the time it just stops mid-burning, telling me there's an error (that I should clean my dvd, etc.). I've tried four different DVD brands and types (DVD-R 1-8x, DVD-r 16x, DVD+R 1-16x, etc) but the same thing keeps happening and I'm not sure what to do. My computer's not even a year old.

Help, anyone?

What happens if you make an image fiole on the hard drive and then use that to make a DVD?

Well, what I'm trying to do is a back up of the files in my computer; copying movies works (I tried that as a test to see if it was a problem with my burner program or my computer), but when I try the data dvd with my files, that's when I get the error (most of the time; like I said, I've managed to successfully burn a few data dvds).

OK, try it this way

Select the data files and go to the point where you go to burn a CD. But, instead of actually burning, tell the program to save the image file to the hard drive. Then, when that's done, open the image to write to DVD (usually double clicking the image file will start the process)

Intermittent faults are the bane of every service engineer's life - there is almost certainly a fault in the drive if it fails on different brands of media.

The fact that it somewtimes works points to an intermittent :(

:( so what should I do then? Sorry, I just have no idea what I'm doing :P . What's more, I just tried copying a DVD movie and it worked just fine, but when I try to burn a data DVD, that's when I get the error message. I'm at wits' end here!!! :P

So how are you trying to do the data DVD burn? What program from the suite are you using? You realize of course that your Basic 9 version may not have all features of the full retail version.

The burner I'm using came with my computer, with its original license and everything... and it could be that I was doing it all wrong, except that, like I said, sometimes it works just fine. But I do the same thing as always and I get the error message now. So what confuses me is, if I were doing it wrong, wouldn't all my attempts fail? and if it were a problem with the lens or something in my hardrive, shouldn't copying a DVD fail too?

As far as I can tell, it's an intermittent fault... which I would really like to solve because it's ruined like 10 of my DVD's now. =(
