Plug & Burn

Rocko

Question

Hi,

I bought RoxioCreator 2009 this morning for the sole reason of burning about three dozen Mini DV tapes to DVD using the Plug & Burn (P&B) program. I don't want menus or anything fancy, just a straight dub from the camera to DVD. I've tried using P&B four times now and all seems to go well, until the capture is finished. At this point, the P&B status screen says, Stopping Capture (28%). I've let it go for several hours; I've tried stopping the camera manually (only to have the program say it lost contact with the camera). I call up the task manager and it says P&B is running. The only thing I can think of is that their might be an unrecorded segment on the Mini DV tape and P&B doesn't know how to deal with it (although the software should record anything from beginning to end on the tape). I guess I'm going to try another Mini DV tape. It's frustrating though. I just want a simple copy of the tapes for archival purposes. If broken control track is the culprit, I probably wasted my money. Is their anything else I could cause this problem or any other options I haven't thought of?

Thanks...

I would suggest avoiding P&B since it often causes encoding/burning problems. I always capture to file on the hard drive (preferably to DV avi since that gives the best quality) and then use myDVD to burn to a DVD. This process separates the encoding from the burning process which otherwise are done at the "same time"

Also if there are blank spots on the tape (no timestamp) the capture stops usually.

I followed your advice. I captured the video to my hard drive and created a DVD with menus in MyDVD. It seemed as though everything was going well with burning the disc, when the software locked up at the end. It said that burning was 100% complete, but the overall status bar hung at 97%. RoxioCreator 2009 is the worse software package I've seen. The only thing that seems to work is Creator Classic. I'm done with Roxio. Thanks for trying to help...
