"installation Was Interrupted" Error

Jonesy

Question

Trying to install Creator 2009 SE on a friend's XP Home machine. Followed several of the suggestions posted here: the Clean Install procedure, looking for dsetup.dll, removal of .Net 3.5, using Msconfig to diable all Startup programs, and finally copying the entire CD to his Desktop and running Setup from there. First thing Setup tries to do is install DirectX9, but it only does this for a few seconds and then quits, saying Installation was interrupted. Any suggestions appreciated <grin>.

Try this, it worked for me getting Roxio Easy VHS to DVD to install:

Open My Computer (or Computer for Vista users) from your Start menu.

Go to C: drive -> Windows folder -> System32 folder.

Look for a file called dsetup.dll in the System32 folder.

Rename the file to "dsetupOLD.dll" or delete the file.

Reinstall Creator 2009 (or whatever program it is) and follow the on-screen instructions.

The link, in Post #5 of this thread, addresses that file, and the people here, who are having problems, did not find that file.

Went through this entire list, made sure of everything. Only thing I didn't do was disk defrag, as Windows said I didn't need to. Install says it's installing DirectX 9 runtime for a few seconds, then quits with the Installation Interrupted error.

Only thing odd I noticed as I went through the list is that DXDIAG's System page is still showing a DirectX version with the "old" incremental version number, instead of the new "month and year" number. But I watched the update process and saw it pulling down files just a month or two old, and the Microsoft.DirectX.Direct3D.dll file is current.

I'm totally out of ideas as to what is going wrong.

This has happened to me too. I have spent 2 days trying to find dsetup.dll, any one help??

Thanks

Chrissie

I'm pretty sure the installation hints say to LOOK for this file, and delete it if you find it. That is, it may not exist on your PC, as it doesn't on the one I'm working on. I assume the Roxio installation has to get to a certain point before that file will be installed, and neither you nor I are getting that far <grin>.
