Roxio Mydvd V9

Question

Hi,

I hope someone can help me.

I have a Compaq Presario C714NR Notebook PC. I have had a problem for about over a month now. When I run my scans they all freeze at one spot. My entire computer freezes in fact. The file they freeze at is the following:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Roxio Shared\9.0\SharedCOM\CPSFormatLoaderTIFF.dll

I have ran scans for over a year now without this problem.

I have tried to uninstall the file but the computer freezes when I try to do that. Is there a virus in there? Can I come onto your site and try a reinstall?

Roxio came with the purchase of this computer. I have contacted HP about this and they suggested going online to run a virus scan with symantec and mcaee. I did that and the same thing happens. Everything freezes at that spot. Each time this happens I need to turn off the computer without actually going through the shut down process.

I don't think I have even used the program. I didn't even know the word Roxio until my scans started to freeze.

How can I uninstall and reinstall this program without doing a recovery. I have put too much time into downloading and tweaking my laptop to the way I like it to take it back to the day I opened the box. I can't imagine needing to re-install every thing I have added to this computer for the last year.

I appreciate the time and consideration in helping me with this problem

Follow the clean install routine from here to remove EMC9 from your computer

You can't get a copy here - firstly, it's two versions back from current and secondly, you have a modified OEM version supplied by HP who are responsible for support

To fully remove the program, follow these instructions. If you have Vista, scroll down to the bottom of the link -- the "clean install" instructions are there.

NOTE:

You you will need to get an installation disc from HP to re-install the program, you'll need to re-contact HP for it.

Note that emc9 two versions old, so you could probably get it or emc10 at a pretty good price. Though from your post, you don't seem to use the program....

EDIT:

Looks like someone types faster

Thanks so much for the quick reply.

HP wants me to do a Destructive Recovery! =o

I really don't know if I ever used this or not. I'm just a mom that e-mails, posts on a few forums, and does puzzles / armchair treasure hunting. I download some music and burn CD's. I always use my media player for that. So! Don't think I actually need this.

And it's driving me crazy not being able to figure out wth happened that changed things.

Again. Thanks so much for posting a reply so quickly.

Guess I'm going for the clean installation. Whatever that means!

btw. I don't NEED to reinstall this software, do I?

DANG! That looks serious. Hope I don screw it up!

Actually unless you have an installation disc, you can't re-install it anyway ;)

Just follow the steps in the instructions to the letter (actually, print them out first so you can refer to them)

One other point - open the C drive in My Computer and then open Documents and Settings. Then in tools, folder options, view, move the spot from 'do not show hidden files and folders' to 'show...' There may be a Roxio and a Sonic folder in C:\Documents and Settings\<yourname>\Application Data - these also need to be removed.

You can reset the view after if you wish
