Audio Distorts

Question

Hallo to Fellow Members,

My problem is that when I try to capture from a Sony Handycam HC40E Pal to either Roxio Easy Media Creator 10 Suite Video Wave, or Windows Movie Maker the native sound is broken and distorted, although the video is OK, when the Handycam is connected to a TV the sound and video is OK. I tried lowering the sliders in Volume Control and in DirectX Diagnostic but still the sound was still distorted, also in Device Manager the Audio Codex page states all working properly as is Realtek AC97 with upto date driver. The system plays music CD's OK, and the native capture distortion has only recently started. All sugestions welcomed. Regards.ubiediting

I had a similar problem, although maybe under different circumstances. I don't know what kind of camcorder the HC40E is, so this may not help you at all. I had some minidv tapes that would capture video fine but audio was choppy. They played fine on the tv as well. The tapes were recorded on a sony camcroder and I was trying to capture them with a canon camcorder. Once I borrowed my in-laws sony camcorder (mine broke, which is why I had the canon), everything captured fine. Again, I don't know what kind of media the HC40E uses or how the video was recorded, but thought I'd throw this out there. Looks like you are using PAL too, which also is different from my experience. Good luck!

Hallo Nuzy,

Very good of you to reply. my native audio plays OK in my camcorder as well as on the TV and I think the problem must be in my computer because, irregularly, the same distortion affects the music tracks played in my DVD Rom. I have restored the system to a date before the sound distorted but it still distorts so I am lost, as having tried all the above I am wondering if it's the sound card.

You could update the drivers for your sound card. If there are new drivers, it may fix the problem.
