Splitting Avi Files

So far, Roxio support has not been useful in answering this question.

I'm wondering how to split AVI files into numerous smaller AVI files which can be read by any Video Editing program/application.

Roxio tech support suggests to use either VideoWave or MyDVD. They refuse to explain how this can be done but insist that the full explanation can be found in the Help section. From what I can determine, the above answer is totally wrong as nothing is explained in the Help files about splitting AVI files into numerous smaller sections retaining their native format.

Can anyone help with this problem?

What is in the Help is how to split a video file. Not how to split AVI files into numerous smaller AVI files which can be read by any Video Editing program/application.

 

Would have been much easier to do this at capture. The only way after capture is to make the cuts, delete some sections and 'output to file' the remaining portion. Then UNDO the deletes and start over for each section. There is no option to output to file only a section of the production.
