Oh, So Slow

I built an uber fast computer for transferring video tapes to DVD. I have just under 40 video clips that total about 1 hour and 40 minutes. All of the editing has been very slow. I have been trying to create a solid color panel between clips for 43 minutes. It's a "title shot" that I am adding text to. I still don't have the text added yet. I have no other programs running. I can hear the hard drive moving ocassionally. I only started with EMC2009 a few days ago after downloading it from Roxio.

 

The clips have been defined as scenes from different video capture files.

 

Is there anything that I am doing incorrectly? Is there anything that I can do to speed up the process?

 

Dual Core Quad, 2.83 GHz

8Gb Ram

Win XP 64 bit

NVidia Geforce 9800 GTX+

 

Is there anything else you need to know?

So what do you think is slow?

 

While you didn't ask, a 4.7Gb DVD will hold about 1 hour of video at best quality. 1:40 will fit but you will lose quality to do it.

I think that the program taking more than 1 hour to create a single solid color panel with 3 or 4 lines of text is extremely slow.

 

These are old VHS tapes of home videos that were taken over 20 years ago. I'm not going to get best quality from a low quality source.

Putting in a color panel, and text, should finish up as soon as you type the text, and click ok. If it doesn't, you have something going on in your uber fast machine.

 

Go into msconfig, and uncheck the boxes to the left of any Roxio items, reboot, and see if things run faster.
