Roxio Creator Has Encountered A Problem And Must Close

kpjones44

Question

I have had a lot of problems with Creator 2009. I could not use the download. I purchased a CD and have installed and performed a clean re-install via instructions from this forum. It loads, but I receive the "encountered a problem" error when I try to open the app.

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000, 2gb RAM with XP SP2. I had SP3, but it caused so many problems I deleted it.

Video drivers are OK and I have 18GB of free space on the HD.

HELP!!!

Slow down. Not all rectangles are squares !

I bet that you could get hundreds of replies saying that "I have WMP 11 and I don't have a problem". Note that 3 of 3 people complaining of this issue have a Dell. Perhaps there is a theme there. Have you updated your Dell lately (if that is what you have)?

You are right, it probably wasn't the WMP 11. but it probably wasn't Norton either.

I was just about to give up after a wasted weekend in front of my computer, but as I was sitting here talking to my Son I downloaded the service pack 3 update here: http://www.roxio.com/enu/support/c2009/software_updates.html ,

then opened Roxio and it opened as it should.

I don't think that alone fixed it. Over the weekend I did that and many other things several times in differnt orders. Here is a list:

Reformatted the harddrive.

Installed every update that is available to XP on the windows update. Including non-critical ones.

Reinstalled Roxio several times.

In the remove/install programs under the control panel I used the repair function on windows 3.5 service pack.

I sent to desktop ...shortcuts for all the programs in Roxio under applications in the start menu/ all programs/Roxio.

At one point the original error went away but when Roxio started to load I got an

"error 2318 C\program files\common files\Roxio\shared\11.0\1033\Help\CustomAppName.chm...

I went there and looked at it. That's all I knew what to do. I figure it tells each app to load with it's own name. (I'm not a programer)

At that point I removed Roxio, then reinstalled it and the update.

Shortly after that it started working. I don't know why or what did it.

Glad it started working. :) Save those steps just in case !

Hi

I have had the same message when i click on the desktop icon. two days ago i formated my hard drive installed windows xp all the pc drivers installed nortons. Downloaded windows updates and installed Creator 2009 from the disc restarted the pc when asked. The i defrag the hard drive double click on the Creator icon and got this message Roxio Creator has encountered a problem and needs to close. So i decided to go on to the support website. I follow the instructions to uninstall removed from the reg all Roxio and sonic files Disabled start up files and nortons. Restarted then copied from the disc on to my desktop and installed from desktop there was no problems installing. I restarted nortons and all start up files then i double click on the icon and got the same message.

Has any one got any idea what the problem could be

My Pc is a Dell Inspiron 5150 running Windows xp service pack 3 with 2.5Gb Memory, windows media player 11.

Thanks

Simon.

Download didn't work…

DVD didn't work…

Clean Install didn't work…

Did you consider that the problem is in your PC?

Maybe it is time to Format and start anew???

If it were mine, I would get a new HD and format/install XP, all the Dell drivers then Roxio. Bet it will work just fine. Then add the old drive as a slave and transfer data & Info to the new drive. (actually I just did this with 2 PC last week)

Not so fast there Guru. I had Roxio in my Dell XPS and it was working fine. I had some problems that system restore didn't help so I did the "start over reformat and start anew". Now I have that problem too. ("encountered a problem" error when I try to open the app). I can open each individual application ok from the start menu, but when I try to open the "Roxio Creator 2009 wiith the star by it" I get that "encountered a problem" error when I try to open the app. The only thing different, I think, in my pc is I upgraded to windows media 11. What do you think? In the mean time I am going to uninsall 11 and go back to 10 to see if that helps.

It looks like Norton may be a problem here. Did you try clicking on the icon, before you restarted Norton, or any of the Startup files you restarted? And what Startup files are you talking about?

Jim,

Sadly, this is the only solution I came up with as well. Thanks for the input. I appreciate the second opinion.

I can dump the old HDD on my network storage drive and then shoot it.

Hi

sorry i mean the start up section in the system configuration utility. I have tried starting Creator with nortons disabled and enabled. the message still appears. I am going to format my drive again and reload windows to see if this solves the problem. Also i will not upgrade to media player 11. I will keep you all informed.

Thanks

Simon.

I have also got Creator 2009 working.

1) I Formated my hard drive last night.

2) Installed Windows xp.

3) Then installed norton 2009 and downloaded the windows updates inc Service pack 3.

4) Copied the Creator 2009 Dvd to my desktop.

5) When Installing Creator I connecting to the internet when asked and stayed connected for the rest of the installation.

6) When installed placed the folder I download the Dvd onto into the recycle bin.

7) Click on the Icon and at last it worked.

8) Downloaded and installed the latest Creator 2009 update.

Now it works great.

Why it would not work the first time round I do not know may be the computer had a funny moment.

I have the same problem, but this happened after a re-install. Running Windows XP, and Bitdefender as anti virus program. All the individual applications are working, but as soon as I click on the Star, I get the message Roxio Creator Has Encountered A Problem And Must Close.

re-installed 2009 3 times, same result.

Have you checked out the Roxio update page?

http://www.roxio.com/enu/support/c2009/software_updates.html

If you have been updating your register or drivers recently try going back to original ones
