Creator Classic Hangs When I Add Files To Project

Shadow T. H.

Question

Very often when I add files to the project, Creator Classic hangs. At this time on the screen the window Addition of files is displayed. If I click on the Cancel button then Roxio Creator Classic finished the work, and on the screen follow window is displayed:

I try at this time switch off the antivirus application, but it hasn't helped me.

How about a translation of the text in that image so we might know what it is telling you?

OK. "Roxio Creator Classic - the error is found out. The application will be closed. We apologise for inconveniences.

If work has not been finished, working data can be lost. Transfer data on an error to Microsoft. The report on an error which you can send us is created. This report will be confidential and anonymous."

I have sent this report.

This problem occurs sometimes only, not everything.

I have the exact same problem as the Russian has reported in this thread. If I grab a group of directories and drag them to the window for burning they get placed in the window until the last directory and if it has an .exe file as the last file in that directory Creator Classic will hang. I did not wait several hours to see if it ever moved so I clicked on CANCEL and it asked if I really wanted to cancel and click on YES then the Windows XP crash/debug window comes up and asks if I want to send the Dr Watson report to MS.

I then created a dummy directory "zzzzzzzz" and put in that directory a "README.txt" file so that that directory and file are the last ones to be encountered and the complete transfer of directories/files moved to the burn window without hanging. Creator Classic for some odd reason can not handle a last file ending in .exe. The directories prior to the last directory do contain lots of .exe files. I have at this point not figured out why it could be a problem. I do have the SP3 installed.

Well... sure, few home DVD-players doesn't support UDF file system (very often I write video files on a disc for reading on my home DVD-Player), but anyway I can use Roxio Creator Home the application for writing data discs with the ISO/Joliet file system.

Thanks for help. :)

Your missing the point… If you ever find a Computer that can not read the UDF File System, let us know. It has been around since the beginning of Optical Media.

What do you mean by "last file in the directory"? Since you can sort the files in a directory in any number of ways there really is no "last" file

It will not Crash unless there is something wrong with the program.

The Clean Install assures that nothing is wrong with the program, unless you don't have a Retail version. Where did you get the Suite?

Maybe it is the term. What do these folders/files consist of? Can you create a new folder in Classic and add one file at a time from one of these folders to it?

This folders contain EXE-files. When I add all selected folders to project, the window "Adding Files" is displayed and adding files is beginning. At the first time all goes normally. But after a few seconds adding files stops on the some file in one of added folders. Creating folder in the project occurs normally.

I've tried to switch-off the antivirus application, but it hasn't helped me.

Now, I've tried to select the file system UDF102 without bridges before adding files to project. And all occurs normally. And if I'll select the file system Joliet after adding files, then Creator Classic crashes again.

Joliet was written for Win9x computers whereas UDF has very few restrictions. But I have never heard of non-compliant Joliet files/paths Crashing Classic!

It will issue a warning about the file or path name being too long, but not crash.

In any case, it that is all it takes to work for you, go with that!

I know about Joliet restrictions. But when I add files to project and I change the file system from UDF102 to Joliet then on the screen follow window is displayed again:

and Roxio Creator Classic finishes the work.

Now, I've installed Roxio EMC 8 and I've started Roxio Creator Classic application. I add the same folders to the project and all occurs normally.

I spoke just about it. Now, I've installed Roxio Creator 2009 and I've this problem again.

Try to add at once many folders to data disc project and Creator Classic hangs at adding of the last folder. But, for example, Roxio Creator Classic 9 has no such problems.

Creator 2009 will most likely be the last you will even see Creator Classic. Data Disc will be its' replacement. (it has some quirks now but we have given them a list)

I have been using UDF for my data discs since Win98. Only Win3x or NT have trouble with them and when was the last time you saw Win3x???

Just make the move to UDF and you will never look back.

Clean Install - XP

The trick to Clean Install is to print it out so it is by your side and follow it step by step using the More or Less method. (Don't do More than it says and don't do Less!)

I tried to reinstall Windows XP, but also I had a same problem. Else I tried to install Windows Vista the operating system, but also it hasn't helped me.

gi7omy:

Thanks, but I use Promt Expert 8 translator.

The Clean Install procedure is for the Program, not Windows!

There is one for XP and a slightly different one for Vista.
