Dvd Import Not Working

mkeaton1967

Question

I can't say with absolute certainty, but it seems that at about the time that Creator 2009 came out with the most recent service pack that I lost my ability to take a DVD or video file and convert it to any other format. For example, I'm trying to take a DVD I created on my DVR Recorder and then rip it to iPod format. Not trying to convert a copy-protected DVD. Have tried it with several other disks none seem to work.

This used to work but it started giving me error messages: Roxio VideoConvert has stopped working. A problem has caused the program to stop working correctly.....

Have even tried copying the files from the DVD to my hard drive using the video compilation option instead of the DVD Video Copy. No luck.

Tried the full uninstall instructions. Didn't work. Had nothing better to do on a Saturday so I wiped my hard drive clean and reinstalled Windows. Then reinstalled Roxio and the patch. Same error messages as before.

Again, I can't say for 100% certain, but it seems that this started with the January Roxio 2009 service pack.

I'm running Vista Ultimate, 64-bit. 4GB of memory and a 500GB hard drive, on a HP TX1000z laptop. Please advise if there's a fix for this. If not, please report it to the developers. I travel for work, so I really miss the ability to copy/convert videos and TV shows to my iPod.

Thanks

OK.... Thanks for that answer... But, do you not have another suggestion?

I have well above-average technical skills so I'm comfortable that I've followed instructions correctly. I've performed the full clean uninstall/reinstall, and it didn't work. I wiped my entire computer, reinstalled Vista, and reinstalled the software less the January patch -- it didn't work. I've again performed the full clean uninstall, this time followed by a registry cleaner that found a couple of additional Roxio and Sonic entries in the registry -- as well as other c:drive folders that the full clean uninstall doesn't list. I've reinstalled the software and this functionality still doesn't work.

I'm not certain if it ever worked in Roxio Creator 2009. I am, however, 100%, absolutely certain that it did work in Easy Media Creator 10.

I would appreciate any assistance you may have to offer or any advice on how to escalate this with Roxio. The software is far too expensive to just bag it and try a competing product.

thanks

Not sure if you have access to technical support tickets, but I tried via that route as well. Ticket number 682952. Shockingly poor customer service. I explained everything I have tried so far, their reply--uninstall/reinstall. Why not just say, "we're stumped and because we're an honest company we'll refund your money." Nope, suggested uninstall/reinstall (three times already). Did they even read the ticket...???

Complaint filed with the Better Business Bureau. # 57138991. Will see if that changes anything...???

By the way... Definitely not a hardware issue. Downloaded Nero this weekend. It is fully functional (including the features that wouldn't work in Roxio). So it isn't a problem with me or my computer.

Well it appears as though you are outside the 30 day period, but if you bought from someone other than Roxio, maybe you can get a refund from that vendor.

As mentioned, I previously tested this by doing a full wipe of my computer. Won't go to that trouble, but will do the clean install process without the SP some time in the next couple of days. It's a bit aggravating that Roxio has such an involved process to do the full removal. It would seem that if they know that the clean uninstall process is so complicated that they instead need to update the add/remove protocol that is resident in the program.

Something else worth mentioning as it is probably related to the problem... In VideoWave when you choose "insert photos/videos" it comes up to the desktop. If you click on the arrow to go up one level nothing happens. Similar if you try to click the left and right arrows. You can click on them, but the screen doesn't change. Doesn't let you navigate to any other folder. Just stays on the desktop.

If you then go to the left side of the pane it starts with the folders icon, but it's blank. No folders listed. Clicking on the folder icon doesn't do anything.

Then, if you click on the icon for "My Roxio" (the icon to the left of the folder) you get an error message. Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library (in the banner of the error message). In the body of the error message it says:

Runtime Error!

Program:...Creator 2009 Special Edition\VideoUI11\VideoWave11.exe

abnormal program termination

Of course it is possible but I suspect it would be more widespread than this???

Will it work through VideoWave?

Since you did an uninstall/reinstall there wouldn't be any SP's installed unless you did them – they require your permission. If it wouldn't do it then, it would rule out any connection to a Service Pack…

I don't have Vista 64 or Itunes so I cannot really test this.

Same issue here. I have Vista Ultimate 64 on a new Lenovo W700.

I used the Roxio "Video Copy & Convert" tool... video compilation mode.

Select Add Movies selecting the chapter I want from DVD (recorded and finalized with my Sony DVD403)... then POOF!

Roxio VideoConvert Has Stopped Working...

It doesn't work in VideoWave either. Gives same error message that the video converter has stopped working. Note that you get the error message if you try to convert a non-copy protected DVD or if you try to convert a DVD folder

iTunes not a factor, not in use, not open. Just trying to convert a non-copy protected DVD to MPEG4 format.

It could be that the issue isn't more widespread because not as many folks have 64-bit Windows. It seems that we need to escalate this to Roxio developers. How do we do that? As mentioned, I think, but am not certain, that this stopped working after the January patch.

I seriously doubt 64bit has anything to do with it… If you think it does, set that application to run in 32bit and it will disappear…

But these are all different programs and someone would have noticed by now if all of them weren't working…

Try another DVD first then do the Clean Install – don't update to any SP and try it.

Then apply SP3.

Let us know what happens.

OK, I think that there's a different underlying cause. I tried the clean uninstall process (without installing the service pack). As mentioned, I previously did a clean uninstall using the service pack, I even did a full wipe of my hard drive and reinstall of Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit. No matter what I try I still get these same error messages, same functions still don't work.

Originally I thought these functions worked, but then stopped working when I installed the January service pack. Now I don't think it ever worked in Creator 2009. I switched from Creator 10 to Creator 2009 in December. These functions worked in Roxio Creator 10 just fine. It could be that I thought that the service pack was the cause, but perhaps I hadn't yet tried these functions since switching from Creator 10 to Creator 2009.

I just tried installing the software on my wife's laptop. She's running WindowsXP Home Edition, 32-bit. The software is fully functional. It would seem that these problems are only occuring on my laptop. The only differences are that I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate and mine is a 64-bit system. We both run HP laptops, she has 2GB of memory, I have 4GB.

You previously mentioned a doubt that 64-bit was the culprit. However, I've found compatability issues with other programs--even if they're running in 32-bit mode. Would appreciate any other suggesions you might have or some way to forward this issue to the Roxio developers. Software was too expensive to not get full use of it.

Thanks

Sorry but it was tested of Vista 64 and several users are running it on both XP 64 as well as Vista 64.
