Ac3 Audio

iahawk

Question

I have Windows Vista. I also have a Sony camcorder that records to mini-dvd's. When I attempt to import the chapters from the dvd's into this program (I go to capture video, click on the chapter I want, put capture setting as MPEG, and click import now) the video imports and is listed on the right side under "recently imported". However, when I click on it to play it, I get a message that says "One or more of the added files contain AC3 Audio, which is not supported in this version of the product. The audio will be replaced by silence. Please see the home page for how to upgrade to a version with AC3 audio support."

I have searched, and I dont' see anywhere where it tells me how to uprgrade to a version with AC3 audio support.

Also, I can preview the chapters before I import them, and they play with sound. When I look in my C drive, under "my videos" after I import the chapters, they play back in Windows Media Player with sound. So I thought I would try to import them and use WMV as the capture setting. When I do that, It says that the video is captured, but there is nothing on the right side under captured videos.

So basically, if I import as MPEG, I get the video with no sound, but the sound is there because I can play the video directly from "my videos", just not on this program. If I import as WMV, I dont' get video or sound, and can not find the video anywhere. Can anybody help?

Creator 2009 is the latest version of Roxio, and it supports AC3 audio, as does the full version of EMC 9, which is no longer available.

Your version has most of the "good" stuff disabled, but then again, it didn't cost much.

You're right. I didn't cost much. But I don't need much. All I really want is picture AND sound. I didn't think that was too much to ask for, even if it was cheap. I guess if there's no way to update this program so I can get both I'll take it back.

Not only is the AC3 component missing - it is also blocked so you can't add it manually - why they did that is anyone's guess

Thank you very much for the replies. At least I dont' have to waste any more time trying to make it work. I will take it back (if I can), and buy a different brand.

I can understand blocking certain features from the cheaper versions, but I can not understand purposely selling software that won't play a relatively common sound file.

The full suite has all the relevant parts and as EMC 9 is two versions back from current, you should be able to pick it up relatively cheaply on amazon.

Just be careful that you get the FULL suite as some people have been fobbed off with OEM versions (which have the same problems as the Red Box version)
