Mydvd Questions

otown

Question

I have a large project that I've been working on. There are 14 chapters created seperately in Videowave and 14 MPG files created. I find working in Videowave easy but I'm having trouble with MyDVD. I want to combine all the MPGs as chapters on a DVD and burn a DVD.

So, a few questions for MyDVD

1. I'd like to have a main menu that has two buttons, one pointing to my first file (after the first file plays, all other files will play in order), and the second button pointing to a submenu that has buttons for all my files (press a button and that file will play and all following files.) Can I do this?

2. Is it possible to format all the buttons at once or do I have to do each one seperately? I want to change the color of the text and set a single transition between all the files.

3. My buttons are text only. Can I set a background for the buttons so that you can't see whats underneath them?

thx.

Yes I did go thru the Tips and Tricks. So what concerns me is

1. I was told I has going about my project the wrong way...building smaller parts with Videowave and then assembling the smaller parts into a final DVD with MyDVD. It seems this is the right way so I'm confused. What is the right way.

2. I asked specific questions about MyDVD which I haven't found the answers to in the Tips and Tricks or here. Has anyone got answers to these questions.

thx...

I've been successful with MyDVD. I imported the dmsm files into MyDVD and burned the DVD and it looks great. You have to watch if you make any changes to any of the dmsm files as you then have to re-import them...its not automatic.

On a related but different note, I also need to write a single video file with all the dmsm files.....its either going to be an mpg or wmv file. I'm not sure what the best approach is here. i want the best qualty file with the least amount of work.....any advice would be appreciated!!!

thx....

I don't quite understand what you are trying to accomplish here or why? If you are trying to combine several VW projects into one project it cannot be done by "merging" the dmsm files and then outputting the new project into a wmv or mpg file. You have to take each dmsm project, output to a video file and then open anew project and add all the separate video files and output that project to a video file.

Yes but you went about all wrong to do it this way…

Go through the articles and videos in the How To and Usability forums in EMC 10 as well as the EMC9 section. This has been presented with a couple of variations.

A hint on large projects. Test first with small pieces to learn how to do it before you paint yourself into a corner!

I am trying to combine several VW projects in order to produce a single video file. Your advice is the only solution I can think of so thats what I'll do. I guess I'll write each single file in the same format as I need for the final file and combine the single files with VW.

If you open MyDVD and then select multiple dmsm (VW) project files, you will be offered a choice of adding as separate Titles or combining them into one Title…

Isn't that what you want to do?

It would sure save time rending all those separate projects and that was covered in the Tips & Tricks.

No I've finished the DVD (and the MyDVD) part. As I mentioned above

Perhaps I should have started another thread. Anyway I need a video file out from several VW projects or video files in. Since this morning I've discovered that the many input files need to be of a higher quality than the one output file for the final file to look good....which means more work. This is the only way I can think of to make this work.

I do not get a choice when I select multiple dmsm project files - each one is added as a separate title on the menu page. I have never seen that option in any of the EMC versions. Have I missed something over the last years?

Of course your output file can never be better quality then the input file - once you have compressed video (using lossy compression) you will never get back! That is why should always work with the highest quality at every step.
