Easy Cd & Dvd

mdffyx

Question

My Easy CD & DVD program will read a recorded original DVD with some coaxing. But,

when I insert a blank DVD-R to copy the original data, the drawer pops out with message: Insert a blank disc ! I'm using Windows XP Pro on a Dell computer. Should I buy an external E drive,

or is there a solution to using the internal drive?

cdanteek can put you onto a very tidy new 20x burner which has LightScribble and is only $22 at NewEgg :)

They are selling like hot cakes.

Don't need one NOW!!! :lol::D:lol:

Needed it last week and I was in MicroCenter (Phila) anyway. - Oh one other thing, I needed IDE and the that costs more at NewEgg than the SATA they list. MicroCenter also had LightScribe SATA drives for $20...

Hum... Blu-ray $189 to $199??? - Of course that would probably kill my CPU! It already takes my P4 3.0Ghz 12 1/2 hours to render a 1 hour movie in BD or AVCHD!!!

Your NEC ND-1100A 4X DVD+R/RW is from the era before DVD burners were standardized to accept both plus and dash media. The specs are here:

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/stor...34/en/specs.htm

Your drive has no idea what dash media is. Get some DVD plus media, and it will probably be quite happy :) (altho if the media is newer than the drive, the drive may still not recognize it without a firmware upgrade).

All you've said is "my car won't start", which could have any of a number of causes.

One possibility is you have a DVD-ROM which won't record anything. Another possibility is you have a Combo drive (reads and writes CDs, reads DVDs), and no amount of software will add the additional hardware to write DVDs. Another possibility is you have a DVD burner that can only use DVD plus, not DVD dash. Another possibility is the burner simply doesn't like that brand of blank disc.

Without more info, such as the id string of the optical drive (right-click 'MyComputer' > properties > hardware > device manager > click on the + by DVD/CD-ROM drives and copy it exactly - character for character, upper and lower case as shown, space for space.

There are other possibilities, but that seems like somewhere to start.

copied exactly: _NEC DVD+RW ND-1100A Disc drive is indicated DVD/CD-R

It has been so many years since that NEC Disaster hit the market…

No it is a burner but I think it only burns 'plus' media – the Dell propriety version anyway.

There were some who tried a bootleg patch but still had trouble with some 'dash' media.

I just bought a replacement burner last week and it cost me $30. Burns all media including RAM & DL. Lacks LightScribe, but for $30 who can kick?
