Not following this too well???

Your camcorder records onto optical discs. Normal procedure is to put the finalized disc into your computer driver and Add files from the disc.

There is only one file type, vob, not all of these separate pieces you refer to…

Now none of us have seen OEM bundle that Canon includes so we don't know if Media Import is in it or VideoWave. Understand it does include MyDVD but the other programs are of use if available.

Also open one of the programs and click on Help – About. What version is it? ~I would guess 9.xxx something which is not the same as Creator 2009 but about right for the age of the camcorder.

Rwad the following (reference Camcorderinfo.com)

"Compression (5.0)

The Canon DC22 (Review, Specs, $409) uses the same compression method as other DVD camcorders – MPEG2 – and supports three video quality settings: XP, SP, and LP. These qualities correspond to three different maximum bit rates, or the degree to which video is compressed. The highest quality setting is XP, with a max bit rate of 9Mbps. SP mode has a max bit rate of 6Mbps, and LP mode has a max bit rate of 3Mbps. The term “maximum bit rate” refers to the fact that DVD camcorders record video at variable bit rates, modifying the level of compression based on the movement within a given scene. As you might suspect, higher bit rate video requires more disc space, and in XP mode a standard DVD-R or DVD-RW holds a mere 20 minutes of video, while a DVD-DL disc holds only 36 minutes. The figures for SP mode are 30 minutes DVD-R, DVD-RW and 54 minutes DVD-DL; For LP mode, 60 minutes DVD-R, DVD-RW and 108 minutes DVD-DL.

DVD MPEG2 video is considerably more compressed than DV video, which has a fixed bit rate of 25Mbps. This less aggressive compression is part of the reason DV video is generally higher in quality than DVD video.

Editing (3.0)

The Canon DC22 is a DVD camcorder, which means it has some inherent editing difficulties. As with most camcorders, the company offers some rudimentary editing software. What you may not know is that this is virtually the only software that you can use to extract footage off the DVDs. ,,,,

Canon, on the other hand, creates three files for each clip, including .MOB files. These are much harder to import into editing programs, essentially limiting you to the bundled software, which includes The Digital Video Solutions Disc (with Zoom Browser as the chief program) and Roxio MyDVD. These programs offer all the basic editing Functions, but the interface is maddeningly disorganized. Also, you get precious few options for output quality, a problem if you’re just looking to get the best possible footage ready for another, better editing program.

If you’re seeking more editing solutions or are an experienced editor, you’re probably already aware that MiniDV tape is the most widely accessible format. Hard drive camcorders are next, but the quality is severely lessened. But the Canon DVD camcorders are problematic in this regard.

so why doesnt the newer version open it properly

the discs normally contain ifo and vro file which is all the movies in 1 file

Finally some info we can use. You are recording in the VR mode which was aimed at in camcorder editing. There is no real standard for this recording format. You could try launching MyDVD in Creator 2009 and choosing File / Edit DVD disc. It may or may not work.

For future recordings, use the Video mode and should be easier. The disc should then contain .ifo and .vob files which MyDVD can use.

As for the files you have, rename the .mpv to .mpg and Videowave/MyDVD should be able to open the file. Not sure about the AC3 file. You'll just have to try that. Getting the two synced may be tedious.

when i put the disc into the computer it will not read it. it says it is blank

the only way i can get the computer to read the disc is if i connect the usb cable and open up mydvd and import

no other program seems to import the files from the disc, only mydvd

the version im using now is 111b10E ENU, i will have reinstall the old version to see what that was

my problem is that the old version WILL load the ac3 files to each corrosponding mpv file

but it wont let me convert it to another format

so i got creator 2009 thinking i could do that, but it wont load the audio

Did you finalize the disc, in your camcorder?

It would appear that you have a corrupted disc, then. Is it a RW disc?

yes its a rw disc

if its corrupted then why can i read it, erase it etc?

anyway this is not the problem

the problem is that mydvd copied the files as mpv and ac3

and will only open properly in the older version of mydvd

so why doesnt the newer version open it properly

the discs normally contain ifo and vro file which is all the movies in 1 file

Ok, let me rephrase it, then. The movie files, on that RW disc, may have been corrupted. Moral to the story, don't use the RW discs, or change brands.

I had some problems, awhile ago, with my daughter's RW discs. I told her to use the regular +R miniDVDs, and she hasn't had any problems since.

I thought that the RW discs couldn't be closed, but I am not sure.

Also, what are your choices for recording mode? It sounds like you are not using the one that you can edit, on your comptuer.

managed to convert the files to mpg

although the new creator 2009 really does suck

it slows down the whole computer, takes ages to connect to the cam

the older version did it straight away

why is it that creator only allows me to import the files as a converted file type? eg mpg divx or wmv?
