C++ Runtime Error When Attempting To Use Drive Backup

cynicl12000

Question

Hello there,

I recently installed Roxio Creator 2009 Ultimate on a 32-bit Vista OS. I haven't had a chance to use a lot of the modules yet, but have been having a heck of a time with the drive backup for BackOnTrack.

I appear to be able to back up files just fine, but if I try to do a Drive Backup, I get a message box stating:

"This application has requested the Runtime to terminate in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information.", the title bar shows that it is a C++ runtime error, but there is no error number to reference.

I have so far done the following in my attempts to troubleshoot:

1.)

a.) Uninstalled .Net 3.5 SP1 using Add/Remove Programs (the only lower version I have is 1.1)

b.) Installed .Net 3.5 (no SP) from the Microsoft website

c.) Reinstalled Roxio 2009

2.)

a.) Unintalled .Net 3.5 AND used the recommended cleanup tool

b.) Ran the Roxio installer, allowing the installation package to download/install the .Net Framework

3.) Repeated step 2, but used Microsoft's website to install .Net 3.5

I am installing on a fairly new computer (not even a month old) that specs out well above the min. system req's.

The only other module I have tried to use is MyDVD to burn a few TiVo recordings, and it worked without a hiccup.

Am I doing something wrong? Does anyone have any further suggestions? Has anyone else experienced this issue?

Thanks in advance,

Tim

EDIT:

I thought it worth noting that for attempt #3, I downloaded the installation package again, to ensure that the package hadn't become corrupted in my initial download.

I don't work for Roxio but I posted links to the 2009 Clean Install along with the tongue-in-cheek More or Less advice ;)

Yes I have done a Clean Install on that PC at least once, maybe twice and it still doesn't work… Might Format next time

Interestingly, I have it on another PC and it works there, just as advertised…

Tell you what, try the Clean Install and see what happens. I had made a remark recently that BoT must be working well or that nobody uses it based on the complete lack of posts about it! I believe you have the honor of being the first! – lucky you

I still disagree with your thinking by about 110% My experience with 1 click backups and more importantly, restore is very poor. I am not just referring to home use but even fire breathing, can't do no wrong, Linux & Unix systems with paid pros managing them… They were sincerely bewildered when Restore fails but after 24 manhours of work disappears, sincerity doesn't help much…

I'll save my data and downloaded programs and reinstall software gladly as long as I achieve 100% reliability!

Actually, that is EXACTLY the same error I got. I guess I didn't describe it well.

Well then, that is most unfortunate. A large part of the reason I opted to upgrade from EMC 10 to Roxio Creator 2009 Ultimate is because of the drive backup option (unless I'm mistaken, EMC 10 allowed you to backup files, but not OS/Settings, etc - in the case of an emergency recovery, I really DON'T want to spend the extra time messing around with installing all of the software, drivers, and configuring the UI for the OS the way I want it). There aren't a lot of additions to the functionality other than that.

I appreciate your response, but don't feel that a work-around or separate set of software to do what Roxio claims this software already does is a very good solution for me. I opted to download the software instead or getting a disc; does anyone know if I have any recourse at this point?

I have already put in a help ticket, but the one response I got simply told me to try the steps I mentioned earlier. I have updated my request, but have yet to hear from Roxio again.

EDIT:

Jim, if I recall correctly, it was you that wrote the how-to for a clean install, I'm assuming, then, that you have also tried this to no avail. Is that assumption correct?

No such luck.

My specs are as follows:

Dell Studio 1737 (xM45 Chipset)

Video card: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650

CPU: T9400 2.53 GHz Dual Core 1066 FSB

RAM: 4 GB Crucial PC6200 DDR2

HDD: SATA (with Intel AHCI controller) 200 GB 7200 RPM

Jim, could you please post the specs of both the computers you mentioned earlier? I'm wondering if the AHCI might have something to do with the issue.

Thanks,

Tim

If you are still within the 30 days, from the time you purchased the software, you should ask for, and receive a refund.

I do not see how a controller that is not even addressable by the program would be the root cause, but...

The no work PC is listed in my specs. – HD Controller is Intel 82801EB UATA

The working one is a Dell 530 w/Intel ECH9 SATA 1-2920

You really need to go under Support above and contact Roxio about this.
