No Video Signal

Dan2

Question

Hi, I have just installed the VHS to DVD program. When I play back the VHS video all I get is sound and a fuzzy screen? I am running Windows XP. I already have Media Creaor 9 installed and have created some great movies. I also wanted to get my old VHS films onto DVD. Can anybody help? Thanks....Dan

It is really down to drivers and cords… You say the drivers match so that leaves cords.

If you selected composite video then you are connected via the Red, White & Yellow RCA wires from your VCR to the Device, as shown in the pictures. And you connect the device to a USB port in the back of your PC...

Since you have XP there is one other test. Plug in the Device to your USB and wait for XP to offer its' What to Do list.

Select Capture with Windows Movie Maker. Does that work.

The only other thing is to remove ALL Roxio software and install only the VHS to DVD software.

Make one more test then call Roxio for a replacement or take it back to the place of purchase. Thinking that if all else fails it could be the hardware itself.

Hi there,

ok...Although I am not getting a video signal from my VHS recorder, I have connected my dv vamcorder up and I now get a signal and everything works fine. So my problem has been narrowed down to the VHS recoder. I still can't understand why I can receive audio and not the video from my VHS recorder. I do have another VHS recoder but it does not have S-video output or the phono type connection that came with easy VHS to DVD. Instead it has a scart output on the rear. Do you think an adaptor would work? and if so would I connect it to AV1 or AV2 ie: VCR/DECODER or TV-RGB/ COMPOSITE?

At least now with my DV Camcorder I can capture some of the un-edited footage and edit it with Easy Media Creator 9 that I have.

Hope you can help?....Dan

SCART - mumble, mumble, mumble…

You might want to follow this Topic before you pour a lot of grief into SCART adapters – Here

If your camcorder has the RCA (red/white/yellow) outputs and they work, your Capture device is fine.

Can your camcorder act as a pass through or record from a VHS input? It would be a way to test the theory that the VHS Video isn't working. Well of course you could hook it up to a TV for that matter

I am pretty picky but personally I don't see much difference between Composite and S-Video when the source is only a VHS tape… LaserDiscs & DVD Players, yes I see that S-Video is a little better and would go with that but not for VHS tape.

The device is very similar to the article Here on the stand alone version.Look through that to get some troubleshooting ideas of things to check. If that doesn't help, need your PC specs and confirm the device drivers are installed. Also what program are you using to capture with?
Hi Jim...I have a Emachine E4060 Media Ceter Edition 2005 XP pc. I'm not sure of all the technical stuff you need but hope the following helps: Intel Pentium D Processor 805Dual Core Processing with each core running at 2.66 GHz / 533 MHz FSB / 2x1 MB L2 cacheVideo: ATI Radeon Xpress 200Hard Drive : 200 GBMemory : 1024 MB DDROptical Drive : DVD +- RW 16 x Double layer Multifirmat DriveI have been using Roxio Easy Media Creator 9 and have created some great dvd's. I have a few old VHS Holiday films I would like to get onto dvd that haven't been edited and would like to use Creator 9 to do it. I bought  VHS to DVD to get the old VHS footage from the VCR onto my pc and then edit the films with creator 9.In your suggested ideas that you sent I checked everything. All drivers hare thre etc.. everything is installed as it should be but I can only get audi coming through and not viseo. The 'status' says 'No Signal' ?? Composite video has been selected by the way. So i'm really confused now. Obviously it just a video signal issue but I can't work it out?Hope to hear from you .....Thank you

Not to interrupt but there could be possible conflicts by having both VHS to DVD and Creator 9 installed at the same time.

Not likely – I have done it with both 10.2 DE as well as EMC9 and none interfere with each other.

One difference is that I installed those after V2D was installed.

Hi there,

I have finally found the problem and I am embarassed to be honest.

The problem was that the scart adapter that I was using was the wrong one. It only eccepted the video signal going into my vhs player/recorder and not what I needed it to do ie: accept the video signal from the vhs player/recorder. I had to use this adapter as the vhs player/recorder that I have has no S-Video connection so I had to use a scart- RGB connector instead. I purchased a switchable one from 'PC World'.

I have burned my first copy of a holiday from years ago but the problem I am now having is that although the video signal is ok'ish the sound is a bit choppy and I am wondering if it's because I should shorten the viseo as it's about 2 and a half hours long and the 4.7 disc that I am using hasn't enough space on it? - What do you think?

No reason to be embarrassed, all of us have beat ourselves senseless trying to get the wrong hardware working…

Quality going out will never be better than quality going in.

Capture at DV or DV HQ and you will never go wrong.

I output all of mine at HQ and use whatever number of splits and discs it takes.

Get some RW discs so you can try things to see how they turn out.
