Couldn't Complete The Last Command .. Mac Os Error -39

Question

Just installed Toast 10 Pro and tried to burn a DVD of a EyeTV file (53 mins). It repeatedly fails on my iMac 2.4ghz 24" running 10.5.6 with all the latest updates. Tried burning to a disk image with the same error.

I previously had Toast 9 installed and it worked fine.

Installed it on my MacBook Pro Unibody 2.8ghz with 10.5.6 with the same error message.

Burning a 5 minute EyeTV to a disk image did work.

Any ideas what to do?

Pretty useless upgrade if it fails to do its primary function and now I have removed V9 I can't burn any DVDs!

Overall the upgrade seems to offer nothing for those who burn DVDs from files. It isn't even smart enough to know that if you have files > 4.5ghz to burn to a single sided DVD it has to compress them. You have to burn to an image and then copy the image. Seems pretty basic function to me.

Hi - New here - Sorry I can't help, but I have the same problem, the same error message - I just paid for and installed Toast for the first time in my life - The first DVD I try to burn and it doesn't work! I am very dissapointed :-( There is enough space on the DVD (approx 4 GB) the files are all the same format, Mpeg2 direct from Sony Handycam. I am trying to create a disk image, so it can't be a media problem. Any help much appreciated. My first impression of Toast? - I got burned!

How did you import the video from the Sony Handycam? I suggest using Toast's Media Browser to access that video. Does the Handycam support burning in VR mode or are you shooting in Video mode? I'm not familiar with your camcorder so I don't know how the video is transferred to your Mac. If it is burned in the camera to a disc do you have to finalize it first?

I'll help you get Toast working but I need more background info.

My particular problem is solved - Some of the files were too small, apparanly Toast can't deal with video files under 15 seconds when creating a DVD . See this post for more information.

Error Code -39 Solved,

DVD disk image problem with small video files

Thanks for your help.

I'll start at the end and work up. Toast always required the creating of a VIDEO_TS folder before it can calculate and do the fit-to-DVD. If you want to do it in one step you need to turn on Always re-encode in the custom encoder window, but could actually take longer and may have lower picture quality.

Did you add the EyeTV videos using the Toast Media Browser or by Sending to Toast using EyeTV. Try them both to see if there is any difference in the outcome.

If you still have problems with some EyeTV videos choose Export in EyeTV and select elementary streams as the export format. Then add the resulting .m2v video to Toast. This removes the EyeTV wrapper and demuxes the video. I've found it always has worked whenever I had a troublesome EyeTV file (and that was before Toast 10).

There also were some problems with Toast 9 and the unibody MacBook and MacBook Pros which were addressed with a recent Toast 9 update. For awhile, only Toast 10 worked with those because of something to do with the bus connecting the optical drive.
