Trim Slide Bar Disappeared

Amateur

Question

G'Day. When I use the Trim function the slide bar first appears and then quickly disappears. I can move my mouse over where I think it is and drag and use it. Does anyone have a fix for this problem? I can still edit but it is a bit ackward. Thanks and cheers, Gary

List your PC specs!

G'Day MyGuggi and Jim. Here are the specs for my system (am I missing any you need?):

Gateway GM4019E desktop

AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3500+

2.26Ghz 896 MB Ram

Windows XP Media Center Service Pack 3

NVIDA GForce 6100

Roxio Creator 2009, Service Pack 3

When I move my cursor over the slide bar in the Timeline in the Editor in Video Wave, the cursor changes to a 2 head arrow and everything freezes. When I press Cnt Alt Del to summons the task manager nothing happens. My computer is totally frozen so I can't even see which processes are running, nor can I terminate Roxio. I have to manually turn off the computer.

I agree that working in the Preview is cumbersome compared to the editor, but so far that is the only choice.

BTW, last evening I did a complete clean uninstall/reinstall and loaded SP3 (Jim was spot on as this removed installation problems) and started Roxio. Problem persists.

Thanks for any suggestions, Gary

Just to make sure we are on the same page, this is the Video Trimmer:

What is missing?

Jim, the slide bar is missing including the green start marker and the red end marker for the clip. Note that there is a dashline rectangle over the cursor slide bar position in your preview at the beginning of the clip in the preview mode. All I see is the dashline rectangle which I then "grab" with my cursor and I can move it.

Thanks, Gary

No idea what you are doing: audio, video? Please be a bit more detailed in your post.

What program from Roxio Creator 2009 are you using?

Frankly I never have used Trim…

Trim does just what it says, cuts from the left end of your clip or from the right end. You can't trim from the middle of something so trimming the ends is just something I never found to be of much use… But I suppose some might think it is a must have.

I move the scrubber to a point in the clip where I want it to start and click on Split. Then select the unwanted portion and delete it. Same for the other end.

For portions within the clip, where trim can't work, I do a split at the beginning and end of the unwanted area, select it and delete it.

Still, I cannot deny that Trim should work. Try the Split & Delete just to confirm it is working.

Also bring in one of Windows little sample WMM files to see if trim works.

Thanks for the replies. Here is what is happening in Roxio Creator 2009 Video Wave. In the Preview Window (to the right of the task bar) there appears to be the controls for moving the location (slide bar) within the clip as well as the normal return to start, fast rewind, one frame back, play/pause, etc. when I first open the Advanced Edit for a new production. Then when I add a video to the new production the slide bar disappears. I can use the split or the trim; however, in the Preview Window the slide bar has disappeared. I can move my cursor over where I think it is and click and drag and the video will advance or return depending on the direction of my click and drag. When I release the video stops at that point.

How do I get the slide bar back?

Also, when I click on the locator position (the vertical bar) in the editor I get a leftright pointing arrow and the editor hangs. I have tried to end the process with the task manager and the whole computer is frozen necessitating a restart.

Any ideas besides the obvious of not grabing the locator in the editor. I really need that to locate positions for text entry, etc.

Thank you, Gary

So sorry. I am using Roxio Creator 2009, Video Wave, and trying to produce a video. I add an AVI video and then press the Trim icon. The trim bar flashes for a moment and then disappears. Thanks, Gary

I cannot duplicate your disappearance of the slider bar in the Preview window.

I never use the Preview slider bar for changing position since the slider bar in timeline track is much easier to position accurately.

When you say the computer hangs after setting a new position of the slider bar in the timeline, how long are you waiting? When you go to the task manager do you see a program called VideoProxyfileManager. exe running? If yes at what CPU % is it?

Could you list your system specs, especially video card?

Well 2 thoughts about this…

I have been editing with Roxio for 5+ years and have never on one occasion used Trim… From that I can pretty much say, it isn't a useful part of the program and I wouldn't even know it was there if I hadn't looked for it.

If you have some compelling need to pursue this, Video drivers – Windows set to 96dpi – Clean Install – Call Tech Support – etc.
