Creator 2009 Will Not Print Directly To Cd/dvd With Hp Printer

Falcon Driver

Question

Everytime I set use Creator 2009 to print directly to a disc with my HP C5250 printer, my printer tells me to close the CD/DVD cover. When I do, I prints the label perfectly on a plain sheet of paper. I can "build" my label design perfectly in Creator 2009 and get it ready to print. I select the CD/DVD tray as my print target, open my printer properties menu and select the CD/DVD tray as my print target and select a CD as the "paper source." Then, I select "Print." Immediately, my printer window displays the error stating that I have to close the CD/DVD tray to print. The only thing I have noticed about Creator 2009 during this process is that it will let me select my printer and select that I want to print directly to a disc, however, it doesn't give me the choice of selecting a CD as my paper source. All it gives me is a bunch of paper selections. Please don't tell me to reload 1) Creator 2009 again or 2) Reload my printer drivers again. I've done so more times than I can count--to no avail. However, I have been able to download some free software (3 different programs) that printed my CD/DVD label directly to the DVD without one single problem. The only problem with the free software is that it doesn't have the flexibility Creator 2009 does. So, I don't think it's my printer having the problem and I don't think it's my computer. My gut feeling is that Creator 2009 doesn't know how to assign a CD as the paper source. I've read other postings about how to assign both Creator 2009 and the printer to printer target and paper source. All that did was waste about 6 hours of my time. Anyone found a solution? How about a different program outside of the Roxio family that does what it says it will do?

I have a HP D7560 Photosmart printer. After creating my label using Roxio, under the File menu select “Export Current Layout as Image” to a new folder and give it a file name. It is saved as a .png file.

In the HP Solutions Center select print to CD/DVD. Just follow the wizard and when you get to the part where you can add photos, navigate to the new folder and select the image you just exported. The image will appear on the disk template, and just complete the wizard to print. It worked very nicely for me. I hope this helps.

Take a look at the following thread, even though it isn't your printer. HP evidentally won't allow some outside sources have access for the printer codes.

Thanks so much for your input. Although I couldn't find the Page File Folder for Creator 2009, but I did get it to work with the Roxio Express Labeler that came with my HP printer. I was able to drop it in the "Template" folder. If you know where I can drop the file in Creator 2009, I appreciate being enlightened.

Capt. Sam,

I just purchased this printer, HP 7560, specifically for printing to CD's and DVD's. I have not yet opened the box and am trying to decide whether to keep it or return it. If I follow your directions, will I be able to print more than one copy of a CD at a time? I have read that with the HP software, you can only print one CD at a time and then have to go back and redesign everything, basically starting over. I don't have time for this.

Also, are you happy with the HP printing to CD capability using your method?

Thank you,

Cyndi B.
