Burning A 25 Gb Bd-re Disk

RoccoP

Question

I have an HP laptop with a Buffalo external USB Blu-ray burner. I have a BD-RE disk that I previously used to burn a Blu-ray video using another project.

I went to windows Explorer and selected the drive that had the disk and told it to erase the disk to get it ready to record on for Roxio.

I had a project built under myDVD that had 2 videos under Roxio that took up about 22GB. I made sure the project had no errors. I selected BluRay project (With Menu's) and had the following settings:

16:9

NTSC

Constrain button aspect ratio

set as default for new production

Long Play (its a 1440x 1080i HD video from my camcorder)

Video Format MPEG-2

2 pass encoding

Dolby digital AC-3 2.0

The disk was already inserted and recognized on the top window in its drive

I selected burn project to disk

I went through the 1st video once than much faster the second time. It then did the second video the same way and finally it reached 100% complete

At that time the following message appeared

Project_Build To Device() Author Script call failed. Error while writing Format

My Question is 1) What went wrong and how do I fix it?

2) Could this have anything to do with that I used a BD-RE disk that had previous material on it?

3) Do I need to do something to a BD-RE disk before I can use it again?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

One other way to try this, should the error pop up again…

Do it in 2 steps: Burn to ISO File in MyDVD. Then close MyDVD and open Video Copy and Convert and use it to burn that file to disc.

Well I did not do the 2 step approach yet. I erased the disk using Roxio. Then started the whole process again. Still received the following message after it was 100% complete

Project_BuildToDevice() AuthorScript call failed. Error while  Writing Format

So I figured I needed to elimate the possibility of a bad disk unit or bad disk media.

I have a copy of Nero 9. I set up the same 2 video blu-ray project in Nero9. And guess what it, burned fine.

So I went back to Roxio erased the disk again. I started up the project again. It completed at 100% with the same error message again.

This is definately a bug in Roxio. I will try the 2 step process next but I would like to know how do I get this problem resolved

Everyone doesn't get that message so it's difficult to say what is causing it. If you can 'burn' to an ISO file or folder, that would point more toward how the software is accessing the burner.

What brand of Bluray burner and what brand of blank discs are you using? That might help, too.

Ok. Creating an ISO and then burning the DVD worked. I was using a Buffalo Burner and an LG 25GB Re-recordable disk. I don't think it's the media or drive as it works always with Nero and with Roxio 2009 in ISO Burn mode only.

The only reasonable conclusion I can reach is a bug in Roxio 2009. As someone said earlier, others have gotten this message. For me the error is repeatable.

At least I have a workaround. But I would like to see this bug fixed as it can waste a lot of Blu-ray disks.

Several users have been getting this error, but I haven't been able to duplicate on my machine. I don't have a Bluray burner, but I can 'burn' to ISO or video folder.

What I find interesting is using Windows Explorer to erase a rewriteable disc. If you're using Vista, you might be formating the disc for packet writing and that wouldn't work. Format the disc inside Roxio.

I see where you can erase a disk in my dvd but where is the format option?

OK as another update I tried to create a new Blu-ray with two new videos. Like before I built it with the exact same production and setting and tried to first create an image. Guess what. I got the error that I received earlier in this thread when I tried to burn directly to the Blu-ray disk.

My original guess was that this error is a function of the amount of free space available or size of the production. Now that it is happening trying to create the ISO file I'm thinking there is some basic coding error in the release I have. I'm going to double check that I have the latest versions of everything and try this again.

Any other ideas that you folks might suggest would be greatly appreciated.

OK I did an erase. I'm going to try it again and I will let you know how it turns out.
